The Jeff Teague Takeover

or: The Assassination of Mike Bibby’s Career by the Rookie Jeff Teague

If you’ve got Mike Bibby on any of your teams, you’ve probably noticed the same thing I have: His numbers are falling.

Not like a bowling ball into a bathtub of pudding… more like Dollhouse’s Nielsen ratings…

36 minutes on November 13th has become 26 minutes on December 13th. And I’m not just pulling those as isolated incidents. I know this because the decline coincides with another player’s numbers increasing. If you hadn’t guessed already, that player is Jeff Teague. Again, it’s not like he’s shot up like he just took a fistful of Viagra. More like that crack in your ceiling that you didn’t really notice, but now seems like it might be worth trying to do something about.

Teague has gone from 4 minutes on November 13th to 24 minutes on December 13th. He seems pretty happy about it, too.

I’m not saying you should grab Teague right now, especially if you don’t already have Bibby on your team. But, if you have an expendable roster spot, and you have Bibby on your team… it might be worth considering.

After all, this is turning out to be another Year of the Rookie – especially once Blake Griffin is throwing down 20 and 10 every night.

They're probably not noticing the number of blowouts which has led to Teague getting the minutes or Bibs numbers falling because other guys are improving. This is probably only meaningful if you have bibs in your fantasy league.

Bibby has gotten less minutes because of the blowouts. Don't get it twisted, Bibby is the starter and when we play a Cleveland, Boston or even Utah Friday, Bibby will get his 30+ minutes.

Remember, Crawford also eats into Bibby's minutes. People need to rememeber how valuable Bibby is to this team, especially in leading us on the court. He is the glue that holds this team together.

The pre-Bibby Hawks were a sorry bunch. They were immediately transformed when he came to town and I don't think he gets enough credit. Plus he probably took less money to stay here in Atlanta when

he resigned. I love him for that. Teague is an upstart kid with some talent and quickness, but he is nowhere near taking away Bibby's job right now.

The thread turned into a fail thread in possibly record time. Bravo

Well I wouldn't say that. I think the article the OP quoted came from a fantasy basketball point of view. Bibs minutes and stats are down a bit, but it's due to the reasons mentioned in above posts rather than Teague supplanting Bibby as THE PG on this team. But I will say Teague has the makings of a quality starter in this league. He has the speed, athleticism, and bball IQ to be the lead guard on this team. He just needs more seasoning. I say he'll be a 15 min per game player by the All Star break and a major contributor off the bench for the rest of this season. If he continues to play the way he has this past week for the rest of the season, He will push Bibs for the starting position as early as next season. The kid has skills.

Well, we don't know if Teague can maintain high quality play against good teams in pressure situations. Doing it in blow outs is one thing, but playing with a high IQ against Boston, LA and Orlando is something else.

Bibby is the starter. When he doesnt play we look so unorganized and unprepared.

and that's as we should expect to some degree. I don't think that anybody really thinks Teague will be ready to be our starting PG anytime this year (and I seriously doubt next year either). Our "core" is still pretty darned young. Still it's nice to see the kid improving and apparently getting some sort of a comfort level with Woody.
