Given the choice

Would you rather have:

Nash for Bibby Zaza (through Toronto)

or

Calderon/Alabi for Bibby/Zaza.

I figure if Phoenix is in rebuild, they would take Calderon/Dorsey for Nash.

And if Toronto wanted to make room for Bayless, they'd give us Calderon/Alabi for Bibby/Zaza.

So who would Hawks fans want?

You can't really believe that.

Think about it...

Calderon = ~10/3/8 PG... with PG and scoring skills.

He's signed until the 2013 season.

Calderon is a good transition guy that lets them set up Dragic. Plus, he would be a good trading piece later.

They also get a PF like Dorsey.

He's a dirty work kinda Pf who can go in and get Board. They have Lopez and Mortat who can play C next to him. Makes it easier to move Warrick.

i feel like Nash is severely under-rated by this board. The dude is still averaging 17/10 shooting 50% and 40% from 3. He'd be a fan draw and really boost our offensive abilities. Sure he's not a defensive guard but don't we already have that problem without the 10 assists and speed he brings?

Nash is 36 soon to be 37 in Feb. For a PG, he has a lot of miles on him and he's signed to another 14 Million dollar year. Like somebody else said, he's not a guy we can build around (no need to give up Teague) and he's too old to consider giving up a valuable core piece for. Us getting Nash is hoping that he can keep it going til the offseason and hoping that we can make a strong run for the finals. This is a win now move.

If we got Nash we would be contenders this year. People don't appreciate that he is a ridiculously massive upgrade from Bibby. He's probably putting up the best numbers out of any PG this year... Obviously, the guy probably doesn't have more than a couple of years left, but if we have a shot at getting NASH for Marvin and Jamal we would be fools not to do it.

Exactly. We're in agreement. Let's win now. So Nash is only going to help us in 2011 and 2012. GREAT! If we start making trades so that we can maybe be a contender in 2013 then that's just depressing. Looks like we are a top 4 seed in the east for the second straight year. if we aren't in win now mode then we're just pathetic.

No sir. We are battling the Knicks for 5/6th seed. Bulls are better than us now. That is why a trade must happen.

Check the standings.....we are fighting for the 3rd best record in the East too. Hawks are just a 1/2 game behind Orlando for 4th and 1 game behind Chicago 3rd. The Hawks are 2 games up on NY.

Nash would be great for Atlanta.

Dragic is already better than Calderon. If not, he's just as good.

Seriously, you are right. I know most here don't watch other teams especially the bad ones like Toronto. He is not good at all. Just average making a lot of money over the next three years. If you think Joe is overpaid, lol, you don't want to see Jose's production on the court plus his contract. His stats to me should be looked at like SAR. They look nice until you watch him play and see his impact on the game. The Hawks know this now too.

Thing is - this is a "win now" league (at least recently and I see no reason for it to change). Teams who build solidly for the future get blown by when teams like Boston simply get players when they need them...or when LAL gets a needed piece for pocket change...or when MIA gets what they got this year. Granted Nash may only have 2 - 3 years left in him...but 2-3 years is an eternity in the current NBA.

As far as "he's not a guy we can build around (no need to give up Teague)" - it implies that Teague IS a guy we can build around. I seriously doubt that is the case and we can't afford to gamble on that while our core is in their prime. We already have the core guys we are building around. Nash would be an awesome addition around our core. Keeping Bibby would be a plus as well (trade Craw as the Nash deal centerpiece if possible).

The nice thing we have now is a relatively young core that is actually darn good. I could see at least two runs with this core team. A couple year run with Nash...then another one (post Nash) before our core gets past their primes. (as far as who our PG would be in the post Nash run - who knows? WAY too early to soothsay that).

Well, pretending like that's a realistic trade, hell yes I would take Nash. He does more than Calderon could ever dream of doing. He would do wonders for our offense. Everyone on our team would benefit from having a true floor general.

Agreed. Nash would be a HUGE positive difference maker for us and frankly, he looks like he could play into his 40s. He brings a skill set this team sorely needs. If you aren't going to have a sure-thing #1 option, get a Pg that makes all your #2s and #3s a half option better.

Side note: For Dolfan, how good could MW be with Nash? If nothing else we have to keep hope alive for the MW apologists.
