taz
I can think of several teams that won titles by drafting a superstar. I can think of only two teams in NBA history that won a title without a superstar. My math isn't perfect but something tells me you want a superstar if you ever want to win a title. I can think of more that have won around 150 games over the past ten years
HawksBalla
Who is the go-to scorer on this team? Who gets us a bucket when we need it?
Plainview1981
Well, in Millsap's case it is only a 2 year deal. The problem is NO draft pick next year. A mid first rounder again. Edited July 6, 2013 by Hotlanta1981

It sounds like you are exactly the kind of customer the A$G wants. Who needs championships when you can brag about playoff appearances?
Premium Member Wretch Posted July 6, 2013 Premium Member Report Share Posted July 6, 2013 (edited) Yo tell me the success ratio of NBA teams that have tanked since the lottery started I'll show you something better... ^^That is what Danny Ferry is doing. I smelled it from day one, but I've been patiently waiting...giving dude a pass because I'm not one to jump the gun. But I know "win without losing" when I see it. He could still pull some shit out of his ass, but what I'm looking at is a playoff team. We will be having this same conversation in 2 years...and another 2 years after that if DF is still running this thing. I promise you. The net result after all of that will be consecutive playoff appearances, lots of mid-late 1st round draft picks, and continuity of what we have seen here for years and years. Successful regular season basketball. At best, this is the 90's all over again. ...and what will we have to show for it? We will miss the window for tomorrow's stars, we will exit the 2nd round of the playoffs, and nothing will change. What doomed Babcock was his fiery refusal to scout talent or put ANY stock into the draft whatsoever. So this dude threw away draft picks trying to "win without losing." I don't think Ferry's that stupid. Contrarily, I think he's too smart for his own good. Edited July 6, 2013 by Wretch

Ferry either doesn't have the cajones to properly rebuild or he's being forbidden to do so by an ownership terrified to truly rebuild. And all it means for the Hawks is more pathetic and absolutely meaningless playoff appearances.
drzachary
Y'all do realize that these types of signings are valuable, right? Millsap, on a TWO YEAR deal? Watch him get moved for picks, this year or next. Gathering assets is a pretty smart way to go about it, because assets remain assets, you don't have to be lucky enough to win a crapshoot. AND hope they don't just flee your loser franchise as soon as they can. Edited July 6, 2013 by drzachary
Afro
Why are people so damn negative. What is the point of complaining about every move? Your opinion doesnt matter. My opinion doesnt matter. Ferry isnt going to try and build a 6th seed team. He is going to build a winner however he sees fit. Correct me if Im wrong but he is smarter than us.

They want a garbage team and one superstar. They want the Cleveland Cavaliers "The Early Years". Screw depth and supporting players. NOPE.

thescout5
Same result different year! All ASG wants is a team that makes the playoffs so they can turn a profit. Who cares about championships except the hardcore fans which there simply aren't enough of us.

Which assets? The ones that Utah is letting walk out the door or the 32 year old specialist on a 4 year 6m salary? I'm not feeling it man. I guess you CAN flip this stuff for something, but Milsap on a 2 year deal? What are we gonna get for him with one year remaining? No. This is what people aren't getting. This is about winning right now. This is not about later. It's got nothing to do with later...Why are people so damn negative. What is the point of complaining about every move? Premium Member Sothron Posted July 6, 2013 Premium Member Report Share Posted July 6, 2013 If we couldn't flip Josh Smith for anything what makes you think Milsap on a two year deal is going to do anything? Or how about a 32 year old jump shooter on a four year deal? I can see teams lining the BLOCK to trade first round picks for that.
