Miami is only offering $10M per for 2 years I read earlier today. I think they gave him a player option for 3rd year. Not sure if the last part is true or not.

Good.  Deng, if you want to play for a team that's going to win, they can't be overpaying declining stars.  3 yr/$33 mil is that max you'll get from a winner.

This is reality starting to set in for Deng.

 

He turned his nose up at our offer and walked away from table only to find that there wasn't anyone who actually wanted to pay him what he was expecting.  Reality started to set in and he decided to "re-engage."  

 

That is the right way to do this, Ferry.  I am skeptical that Deng really elevates this team to contender status but you don't go crazy for someone who is an excellent role player but clearly isn't a true star.

If the deal is a short contract,  I don't see the problem. Nobody better is taking this teams money right now.

 

My preference is to play for the draft, but that's not going to happen.

And to think it was a forgone conclusion we'd end up with Deng before FA began and the thought of that being our biggest move was depressing.  Now that he's basically the only "upgrade" available and we have no guarantee to sign him is even more depressing.  It will however make Ferry look good because he was able to land a guy like Deng even though we'll be paying too much.

Since Lance doesn't appear to be an option, Deng is our last best hope at notable improvement. At least without a trade. I'll be happy to have him as long as the contract isn't ludicrous. Deng, Korver, DMC, Thabo, and Bazemore (Patterson or Jenkins?) would be a nice rotation of wings.

Just don't see Miami being a real contender with Wade's knees. He only played half time last year.  But you are likely right on track.
