Those players aren't good enough to be the #1 defense in the league.  That isn't who they are.  They have played well in the 4th quarter (lately) but that isn't directly translatable to a full game.

Oh God no one is saying that they should be the #1 defense in the league but they certainly shouldn't look like one of the worse the during the 1st 3 quarter and then the one of the best in the final quarter.  You keep saying that they can't do it but they have and in fact they did play 4 quarters of defense against the Miami Heat.  So to continue to say that they can't do it when they have done makes no sense at all sorry.

It won't be as consistent without Cam and Hunter as it is with the two of them.  Our other wings range between solid (Snell) and bad at defense so we are going to pressure the rest of the team more when we are missing the best perimeter defenders on the roster.

Plus the team wasn't getting killed by wings...It was some bench player named Boucher who had 50 million offensive rebounds and put backs.

Since Nate took over, the Hawks defensive rating by quarter:

1st - 12th at 107.9 pts allowed / 100 poss

2nd - 8th at 102.7

3rd - 30th at 134.8

4th - 1st at 84.4

Overall - 8th at 107.2

Question......what the heck happens at halftime?

Seriously!

It will smooth out some as he gets more games under his belt.  This team is a below average defense until Cam / Hunter return, imo.  If we can hang around an overall rating between 8 (I seriously question if that is sustainable) and 15 that is a big win for Nate.

The first five games are critical to get us back closer to .500 before heading out on our Western Road trip:  at Raptors, vs Kings, vs Cavs,  at Rockets, vs Thunder.  I'm hoping for 4-1, but will settle for 3-2.

2 down, 3 to go vs Cavs, Rockets and Thunder.

Copied image from another thread... just thought it was interesting to see how well defined the top 8 and the bottom 8 teams in the league are, as defined by net rating.

LWR_Recording.png

Also, encouraging to think that of those top 8, Hawks actually have wins over 4 of them--Nugs, Nets, Sixers and Clips.

Looking at trends, between ORtg and DRtg you see a stronger correlation between ORtg and Net Rating.

The top 10 best ORtg teams are ranked 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 10, 13, 18, 25.

The bottom 10 ORtg teams are ranked 30, 29, 28, 27, 26, 24, 23, 22, 21, 16.

Collectively 16 of 20 in the same top or bottom third and 1 of 20 in the opposite.

The top 10 best DRtg teams are ranked 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12, 15, 23, 24, 27.

The bottom 10 DRtg teams are ranked 5, 7, 9, 10, 17, 18, 24, 28, 29, 30.

Collectively 9 of 20 in the same top or bottom third and 6 of 20 in the opposite.
