I was reading through the comments thinking the same. It could just be that they decided Cam is more valuable as a trade commodity this summer if he doesn't play, not that he is actively being shopped. If he did come up in a proposal, he might be seen as more valuable after going 6-7 from 3 in our last playoff game. What if he shoots his career average in summer league, he would be seen as a project. They can't always state the real reason why they did things like keep Cam out of summer league. It's no big deal, but I don't always believe the PR version of events. Timing is very strange in this case.

He better show out year 3. Time for the training wheels to come off. Sounds like you have a problem with that decision. While it would have been fun to watch him beat up on a bunch of guys the majority of whom won't be on an NBA roster, I'd be interested to know how many guys from his draft class are playing in the summer league and how many of them are either lottery picks or have started the majority of their games career to date or averaged over 20 mpg in the playoffs. It was kind of shocking to me that he or the team would want him playing in this format at all. So the reversal was no real surprise. Rooting for him to show out this year but it has nothing to do with whether he plays in the summer league. Curious if you are also made at Hunter for not playing? (Cam 84 games played; Hunter 86 games played)
Moderators Popular Post AHF Posted August 9, 2021 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted August 9, 2021 Since we are seeing one other lottery pick playing (to my knowledge), I just thought I'd mention why I think they are different. Romeo Langford has been a huge bust. Averages 2.7 points career to date on efficiency that makes Cam look ultra efficient. 6 starts in 50 games played. Romeo is closer to being out of the league than he is to starting on a healthy team. As a deep bench guy (13th in mpg last year), he is in a different category from Cam who averaged almost 29 mpg last season and was either starting or one of the first off the bench. So I see no reason to criticize Cam for not doing what he is doing when Cam is projected to be a key piece of our rotation next season.
Premium Member Popular Post JayBirdHawk Posted August 11, 2021 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted August 11, 2021 Per Schlenk: Quote Cam Reddish was a notable absence on the Hawks’ Summer League team, although he is in Vegas watching the team play. Both Schlenk and Reddish said the plan was for the third-year wing to play with the team in Las Vegas. This is what Schlenk had to say about why Reddish isn’t playing: “Coming off that injury, we didn’t know we were going to get to the conference finals. We didn’t know he was going to come back for the playoffs. We wanted him to have a springboard going into training camp and have some competitive basketball before training camp so that would be the first time coming back from his injury. Once he was able to come back and play those games in the conference finals, he felt good about where he was. We weren’t going to force him to play, so the decision was made that based on how the conference finals went, he could just go right into training camp next season.” 4
