Popular Post ATLHawks3
He's gone away from a pick and roll heavy offense, and has relied on a more midrange heavy offense. Not enough people trying to attack the rim, nor enough guys trying to put up threes. Nate has to seriously reconsider if this is really the direction that the team's offense should be heading towards, because the offense over the last few games has been terrible, and as a result, it seems to have seriously affected the effort our guys are putting in on the defensive end. He needs to modernize his offensive scheme. Design more pick and roll plays to get guys like Capela and Collins going. Have your wings continue to move off the ball, and have wrinkles in your offense to where you're generating open looks for them from 3. Generate more looks at the rim. This new offense that he's running, ain't it. Edited November 1, 2021 by ATLHawks3
Premium Member Popular Post JayBirdHawk Posted November 1, 2021 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted November 1, 2021 It's 6 games, so I'm hoping this is just apart of installing a portion of 'his' offense and trying to install it early while knowing the PnR will still be an option. So it will be in addition to the PnR. So I'm chalking it up to the learning curve. That's my hope anyway...cause right now: 4 3
Moderators Popular Post AHF Posted November 1, 2021 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted November 1, 2021 This is very good data. Long midrange shots are not going to lead to an elite offense. Trae and Bogi are our only guard/wings that are shooting 44% or better on long 2's. The others are pretty sickly: Hunter 38.5%, Huerter 33.3%, Reddish 27%, 0% Wright. Only guy shooting >50% on the entire roster is JC. We need to be taking the right shots to optimize our performance and long 2's are generally a poor mix of reward to difficulty and represent a very low % of free throws generated on those shots. Hoping this is being emphasized early for development purposes and that we'll see a shift towards more emphasis on being closer to the rim and/or getting those high % 3's (especially corner 3's).

Popular Post NBASupes
While LP was too modern, Nate is too old school. He was perfect last year. Just do LPs shit with a Nate style. 4
Dynamo
A hybrid of both styles might work.Installing this new system is going to be a gradual process.
Moderators macdaddy Posted November 1, 2021 Moderators Report Share Posted November 1, 2021 They'll figure it out. I guarantee telling Hunter to launch contested jumpers from 1 foot inside the arc is not one of Nate's plays. They are just confused right now. But it has exposed that no one other than Trae and JC (and looks like Cam) are that comfortable or good at scoring the ball outside of set plays.
marco102
Well Nate's saying it's just chemistry issues. Glad someone asked him about it.
Premium Member JeffS17 Posted November 1, 2021 Premium Member Report Share Posted November 1, 2021 We badly need someone that can get to the rim and pressure defenses in the paint. Trae can't do it this year, refs aren't giving him anything, legit fouls or not. Even if guys aren't finishing at the rim, we need Hunter/Bogi/Heurter/Cam to be able to drive and kick and get some action going. We need a slasher soooo bad, it would help open up our whole offense, especially when we're not running trae PnRs

Cam, Hunter, and Reddish have shown the ability to get there. Along with Gallo, Lou, and Delon. They def need to hurry up and show it though. This offense has been putrid lately.

Moderators Popular Post macdaddy Posted November 1, 2021 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted November 1, 2021 Say what you want about Nate but at least he easily recognizes the issues and doesn't just say 'we have to come out with more energy'. 'my turn, your turn, i haven't had a turn' is exactly what's been going on with the offense. 3
Gray Mule
We see a multitude of problems right now, most of which will get better and better over time. One of the greatest has been the refs. "Do not give Trae any foul, no matter what." Maybe not that bad, but close. Some way, some how Hawks must improve their shooting %. Most all are capable of better. I hope they have been practicing this part of their game. NBA has put a target on the back of the Hawks. Why? Because of our playoff success last season. Teams we beat in the playoffs want revenge. Teams that didn't make the playoffs are a little jealous of our record. They want to go where we went last season. Flustration has lead to tech. fouls. Hawks have enough problems without this. Trae needs to close his mouth before he gets suspended for too many tech. fouls. It's useless to complain. And, please don't attack another ref. Cost is too high. Note. Has that ref. recovered so he can resume his career? Tonight is the first game of the remainder of the season! GO ATL HAWKS !! 1

Premium Member JayBirdHawk Posted November 1, 2021 Premium Member Report Share Posted November 1, 2021 Quote Most concerning for them right now is the offense. It looks a lot like the much-maligned Indiana Pacers offenses that Nate McMillan had in his previous stop. That’s not what you want to see with a team carrying this much offensive talent. Trae Young seems far more concerned with complaining about calls he’s not getting anymore than just going out there and playing. His talent is superior, so he doesn’t need to game the system. Young will find ways to gain separation on offense, and when that happens, it should be a floodgates situation for everybody else benefiting from that. His numbers are good and the Hawks’ numbers are fine, but utilizing the 3-point shot a lot more will be their best foot forward. 1 1

I also think we can figure it out though whereas those teams had half the talent
