benhillboy
This guy I don’t follow Real Plus Minus (except cherry picking favorable defensive stats for Steph Curry lol) but the Top 40 looks pretty solid (still can’t figure how Will Barton has been rated so highly in a lot of defensive metrics the past few years) whereas Clint’s raw box has him as only a neutral defender for his career. Where is Trae you ask? Not too bad, 121st sandwiched between Brandon Ingram (mediocre defender) and Bruce Brown (excellent defender). The explanation for the methodology is vague on the main page (“RPM takes into account teammates, opponents and additional factors”) and I’m just not a fan of any metrics ESPN authors (PER, QB Rating) but I just thought this was interesting for the anchor of an awfully rated team defense. NBASupes
RPM is probably the most favorable to Trae advanced analytics that currently exist. Capela isn't the best defender in the NBA but he's the most important for his team. Damn near everything we do, honestly on both ends revolves around him and it makes no sense as he's not good enough for that.

This metric also suggests he’s much better at helping on the perimeter than we realize. I don’t see it but hey. I keep forgetting Al is on the Celtics, likely the quiet reason they’re steamrolling mfs. He’s killing it in defensive RAPTOR: Old head still got that high ass IQ. Forgot they got Theis back too them boys a juggernaut with Smart. Edited March 24, 2022 by benhillboy

Premium Member Diesel Posted March 24, 2022 Premium Member Report Share Posted March 24, 2022 Capela doesn't get a lot of respect from the fanbase. He is a necessary cog. He covers defensively for a lot of the holes that we have. I look forward to the game where Nate finally plays: Capela, OO, Hunter, Deron, and Trae...at the same time to put defense clamps on our competition. This is not a starting lineup.. nor is it a 48 minute lineup.. but there will be some point where we will need to shut a team down... and i can't wait to see Nate call for this group to do it.

RPM is a rolling stat. It is probably heavily waited towards Clint's performance last year and that's why you see the jump in Trae too. Next year, it'll probably have Trae as the worst defender in the league and Clint middle of the pack.

Now I know why Barton and Steph been rated highly there for years lol. I’ll stick to the single season +/-. I think half of the rating tries to illustrate how hard it is on Clint when Trae, Bogi, Kevin, and Dre don’t rebound or box out well and those first three basically escort drives toward the rim. Players in Clint’s position foul out much more than he does I would guess. Edited March 25, 2022 by benhillboy
