Top 3 In the East

I don't really agree with this assessment.

I think we have to be realistic about what we have without the trappings of wanting more.

DO we really have holes...

Trae= Best PG in the game. DJ = Allstar Guard. Clint = Allstar like C. JJ, AJ, OO, Bey = Young with potential. Any of these guys can turn the corner and be an allstar.

Bogi, Bey Two of the best three point shooters in the game.

AJ = Budding three point shooter.

Dre= Nonimpact defensive specialist.

Mills = Veteran BU PG.

Vit = Best cheerleader you can hope for.

Bufkin and Mo G.... Really good potential.. will probably play in College Park.

So all & all, we have a very good squad. The test is going to be JJ, AJ, OO, Bey.. one of these guys stepping up.

This is a complete exageration

Trae Young is not the best PG on the league, Curry, Doncic, Shai, Irving, Garland and Murray, he was 10th PG on WAR last year.

Capela is not an all-star center, Jokic, Embiid, David, Adebayo, JJJ, Sabonis... he as 14th on WAR, 11th on RAPToR.

Bogi and Bey are not one of the 2 best 3 pt shooters, Bogi was 25th last year, Bey is not even top 100...

Let's realize about the true level of our players before thinking we are a lock on Top 3

to pile on is there anyone here who would bet a month's salary that DJM will ever be an all star again?  I sure wouldn't.

It's a lot less likely that it happens here in Atlanta, as it is very rare we ever get more than one All-Star regardless of merit.

That being said, if the team performs on the court during the first half of the season, you could see it happen. Our biggest issue is constantly going in to the All-Star break with losing record, thus validating snubs.

DJ is more respected among coaches and possibly even some players than Trae. DJ easily could be an injury replacement.

Let's not act like 20, 6 & 5 is subpar for an All Star resume, especially when we used to send dudes barely putting up 17/18ppg all because we were a winning team.

If we can be a top 5 team around the time voting stops, we have a chance at DJ making the team. If DJ ends up on another team down the line, he likely gets more opportunities.

Trae, Brunson, Mitchell, Garland, Ball, Harden, Jrue, Lavine, Derozan, Mikal, Hali

Even if a couple of them age out or get traded the East is still loaded with guards.  Plus the next generation is already lining up.

Agree with most everything posted here.  I'll be content if we get into the playoffs without a play-in game.  I'll be pleasantly surprised with a top 3 seed.  I think there will be speed bumps with the new schemes and coaching, but I'm still optimistic about organic improvement with the same players.

So DJM putting up 20/6 on the worst team in the league gets an all star bid and Trae can't make it at 26/10 on an average team?

Let's start with the Blasphemy on Trae...

Led the League in Assists.   Isn't that what a PG does?

You mention Curry as if he even runs an offense?

2nd... I never said Capela was an allstar.   I said he was like an allstar in that he put up good enough rebounds and blocks to be mentioned but we both know he will never have the PPG to make an allstar team.

3rd.. Bogi shoots .406 from three... and FOR US.. Bey shot .400 from three. They are not Kinnard... But Bogi hit more threes than Kinnard did.  In fact, when you look at Volume, Bogi hit 146 3pters and Bey hit 151.. these are playing from  the bench.

I already thought we were pretty good as is and I know for a fact that last years record doesn't reflect our true talent.

After looking at the Power Rankings for this up and coming season (of course we were disrespected/underestimated), I can almost say without a doubt we will be top 3 in the East.

For once I'm going to keep my post shorter by sparring the details but I'm willing to bet at the very least my avatar that we have the top 3 seed going into the playoffs next season. Even keeping the team as is currently.

ps. watch it be top 4 (just to play with my emotions Smokey) but I can bet by than we'd all agree we should be top 3.

Squawk posters are of two very different minds about next season.

Some of us believe that, despite losing JC, our young players will show some more maturity this season.  They will be better than they were last season.  Quin now has his own staff to assist him in teraching and growing these players.  They are a talented group and almost all have yet reached the peak of their careers.

Some of us believe that, at best, this team is a .500 team, just as it was last season.  The coaches cannot lift this roster and they don't have enough talent to be any better.  Trading JC has left a big hole in our team and no one currently here can be capable of filling this hole.  We must trade several of our youth for an all star NBA player and he will lift us to great heights.  This is our only hopes for improvement.

If the Hawks GM comes on the Squawk he will hear half of us yelling, "Do it!"  The other half, "Don't do it!"  We are of two minds.

MINORITY REPORT:

There may remain a few die hard posters who would be satisfied if we could find an older veteran PF who would want to come here on a reasonable cotract.  He could fill in while one of our younger Hawks learns the position.  If we did this we could remain under the dreaded apron and would not lose a lot of our youth.
