Sign him now, if it's possible. Eliminate the "contract year" distractions. Crawford is here to boost the scoring, no pressure off JJ..he can still be the man. Shows Horford their committment to winning next off season. There's nothing bad about giving JJ a 3/4 year deal right now. Do it!!! We ink JJ right now shows the players, fans, the league, we're ready to be in the mix the next few years. Especially with the FA's next summer....it would be huge!!!

Taking Johnson Off The Market?: The Atlanta Hawks have spent a ton of money over the past few summers and the popular question tossed around is "how do they re-sign Joe Johnson?"

There is little doubt Joe Johnson is one of the most attractive free agent chips in 2010, mainly because he is the most likely to consider other options, and it appears the Atlanta Hawks have gotten the hint.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitutions' Seakou Smith in a recent Twitter post, his sources' say the Hawks are scheduled to meet with Johnson in the coming days to talk about a contract extension. Johnson is in the final year of his deal and is slated to earn just under $15 million this season.

Johnson is eligible for a five-year extension on his existing deal and could get an offer north of $75 million from the Hawks effectively taking him off the market next summer.

That would be a fair deal. That is under the max contract.............just what a allstar ,who is not a superstar , should make. That would be a good contract for JJ in my opinion. We would end up paying more in a bidding war IF we wait until 2010 free agency where 10 teams will have money to burn.

It would be a great relief to have JJ already locked up. He is this team and the primary reason for our recent success. We go as he goes.

the nice thing about this is that next year when all these teams are scrambling to sign one of the big free agents, we can concentrate on the secondary free agents to tweak our roster if need be......all because Joe would have already signed and we knew what our team was.

If Joe gets signed to a max contract, we won't be signing any other significant free agents. In fact I think either Crawford or Bibby will be gone if Joe is signed.
