Josh Smith is dumb and lazy!

Whoa, aren't we being hard on Josh? Sure, questionable foul calls get him off of his game way too easily for an adult, and opposing teams smartly can compound his lack of focus by simply giving him 8 feet, leading to the Josh Smith Jumpshot: one of the worst plays in NBA History. But I wouldn't call a player dumb and lazy who is well-respected as a League-Wide Top 5 Defender who shoots over 50%, and whose post-season numbers trump his regular season stats in Shooting Percentage, Rebounds, Free Throw Percentage, and Blocks, although his shooting and blocks were below tonight.

Josh smith turned the ball over (6X's) at key times tonight. He still doesn't understand that he should never dribble up the floor EVER!!! The biotin line is that I understand that atheletes get lazy at times but this is the f-ing playoffs. You should do nothing but hustle for 48 minutes!!!!! It's down right pathetic and completely inexcusable. He did the same thing at times in the Milwaukee series!!!! Josh has done a lot of good things this year and we have all given the credit that was due!! I dont think Josh will ever get it but I hope he does. I guess I will s*** in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up first. I think I know which one will, and so does the rest of this board!!!

My friends and I watching the game were wondering if he was hurt in the 3rd because he was sooo slow on both ends of the court. This was before he got raked in the eyes by Vince Carter (and didn't get a foul called for it) and stayed down on that end of the court and gave up a three because of it. There was a stretch of several minutes in the third where I thought the guy was legit hurt and staying in the game anyways.

This is not to make up for his horrible turnovers and play in the third.

OY...just OY. First of all, the official stats show 5 turnovers for Josh not 6. So there goes your credibility. Secondly, the failure of this team is what it has been. You 2 guards went a combined 11 for 32. That's 34.4%. And yet they took almost 50% of the team shots. This game would have been a blow out except we shot 30 of 31 from the free throw line.

Maybe you didn't watch the same game I did. But I kept seeing 2 guards with cart blanche to drive and take off balance jumpers time and again. That is not winning playoff basketball.

Lastly, Dwight Howard shot 18 free throws tonight. The refs played a monster part in this game tonight. First quarter, even ESPN announcers were calling BS on Howard running over Collins both times and it being a defensive foul both times.

There is plenty of blame to go around. The Magic scored 112 points. Roll that around in your noodle for a while. How does any team score 112 points in a playoff game? Is that the work of 1 player? 4 Orlando starters scored 20 points or more. Meanwhile Mike Bibby scored 3 points in 13 minutes. Bibby couldn't guard a doughnut at an anorexia convention and it showed tonight. Your trade Josh Smith threads show you have no appreciation for a player that was probably the most valuable person on this team this year. The difference between 3rd seed and out of the playoffs was 12 games this year and Josh Smith could easily be attributed as the soul reason we won 12. Take away Josh or Jamal and this team doesn't even make the playoffs.

This loss is squarely on the shoulders of Mike Woodson for not developing Teague, Acie or anyone else that could come in and guard Jameer Nelson. Young, quick point guards have killed us all year and during the playoffs.

112 points is unacceptable.

I hate to say this. I've been one of his biggest fans throughout his entire time here. When people have started talking trade in the past I was first in line to tell them they were out of their minds. But seriously, we should probably trade Smoove. If you can't play with heart in the Confrence Semis, then you have no heart. If the guy played with maximum effort night in night out he would NBA first team every year. The guy doesn't have it man. There were like three times where he didn't even bother to cross haflcourt to get back on entire possessions. In the third quarter of a playoff game when you have the probable NBA champs (is ANY team playing better ball than these guys the last month and a half?) on the road, and you don't give enough of a s*** to cross halfcourt? What is one to make of that? I mean, he needs to have a f***ing hell of a series from here on out for me to stop associating Josh with the selfish bum I saw out there tonight.

He did have a bad game and usually does on the road. However, you guys overreact on this board. He will bounce back and be terrific on Saturday. He is gonna see it as a hometown battle between him and Dwight. We are a different team at home and we will win. Also, Josh isn't getting traded so forget about that.

I'm pretty sure this wasn't the only game dude has walked up the court like a certified loser. If Hubie did every hawks game this season that would have been pointed out more than once. You ppl know that has been going on dating back to previous years, it's not anything new. The dude is a baby though. When I saw Vince swipe/rub his face and he went down to his knees off that I immediately thought snuggles. And I thought Lebron was weak, this guy takes the cake

When I saw dude throw up an air ball that was nowhere near the rim in game 1 and Howard snatched it and Josh jumped up and down like a female moron I lost mad respect. He was whining as if it were a goal tend. Dude that ball wasn't even trying to see the rim. He cry too much. Make a few all-star appearances, maybe earn an MVP then try to complain. Play the game man.

Watching Josh the whole second half I wondered if he has the flu or a stomach virus. That wasn't the energetic Josh we saw in game 1. He was one bright spot of that game. Definitely it is easy to see why we don't close teams out. With Dwight out we should have been high energy, instead, not just Josh everyone looked like they were just tired. You could tell if Hubie Brown was still coaching us, some people would have been benched and their ears would have been bleeding after the game and the chewing out he would have given them.

Smoove is just emblematic of this, but on offense the Hawks are way too predisposed to dribbling/shooting with the WHISTLE in mind rather than the BASKET.

With the ball, they approach the basket expecting to draw fouls, and when they don't get the contact they expect, or they don't get the ref to make their desired call, they throw up the most awkward shots as an afterthought, then flailing their arms/losing balance to get the refs' attention rather than going after what will obviously be an offensive board opportunity. Craw won't take an open 3-point shot, if he can up the degree of difficulty by drawing a defender in hopes of padding his dear record. Iso-Joe acts like he gets paid by the dribble and bounces the ball off his own feet while desperately trying to draw fouls amidst a forest of defenders. I won't even start with Marvin...

But Smoove is the worst when it comes to this, hands-down. A blown call/non-call and he thinks he's entitled to a friggin' UN special conference to debate it... with the game still going on! That's got to stop. In the clubhouse, you gotta start fining the man. 5000 bucks each time he glares at/chats with the ref while the game action is still going on. Just one assistant coach capable of administering foot-to-a$$ resuscitation wouldn't hurt, either.

I do hope he's been getting checked for concussions or something, he's been getting hammered pretty good in the past series-and-a-half. I was thinking "stomach virus" as well with his sluggish play on both ends of the floor. Whatever ails him, the cure sure isn't bringing the ball up the court by himself thinking he's a 6'9" Jason Kidd. And it isn't QB'ing the offense from the three-point line when a low-post presence is sorely needed.

Last night he was the Derrick Coleman/Antoine Walker type that I'd always feared he'd morph himself into once he got his first big contract. "What, my teammates are down the court going 4-on-5 while I'm dealing with a pulled eyelash? Whoop-de-damm-do!"

Teague should have received more playing time during the regular season, but Woody's lack of trust in rookie point guards has come back to haunt him. Now he got Bibby riding the pine as well. So in essence there is no TRUE point guard on the floor... and no one who can guard smaller players..

Woody gambled and now he is about to loss his job..

Josh Smith is the MILTON BRADLEY OF BASKETBALL...

Smith's attitude won't get better after being in the league for six years. His game has hit the ceiling, and he needs to be traded.

That would be pretty cool though...

Chairman bangs gavel: "All to order, the UN Committee on Fairness in Competition is now in session. As usual the first 17.000 items on the agenda are challenged calls from the NBA during last week's games. Let's start with Golden State versus Portland...I hope you all brought your lunch".

Seriously though, as much as I get annoyed at MLBaseball umps who refuse to call the belt-high strike, I will give them credit for keeping the game under control. The NBA could do this if it was really a priority. Recently I was watching a Lakers game where Kobe was called for a double dribble (it was an obvious call). He slammed the ball down and yelled at the ref all the way down to the other end of the court. I couldn't believe he didn't get T-ed up. Maybe that's what Smoove should work on in the off-season, the art of complaining while getting back on defense.

I never made a trade Josh smith thread first off. And thank you for furthering my point.... As smoove goes this team goes. The problem I have is that this is his 6th yeAr in the league and he still does not understand that. Just as easily as we won 12 more games we could have been a higher seed or even swept Milwaukee If not for his childish antics. Josh Smith is not championship material and we will never win with him steering this ship. The wheels started falling off when his immature lazy antics started. As far as mike

woodson goes I completely agree with you on lack of development. I do think that woody has coached well this series though.

:thumbsupsmileyanim:

First, the good stuff: Hawks hit their free throws! YEAH!! Way to go!

:cant believe:

Guess that's all the good stuff. Collins gets called for fouls - more than one - When he gets run over by Superman.

What gives? Hawks got screwed - Again - by the refs. Didn't cost them the game, but it contributed.

Iso JJ - - dribble the clock out or let someone steal the ball - - Your choice. Hit some shots - Miss some shots.

Woody blew it. Starting the third, he should have called time out. Then, he should have sent Smoove to the end

of the bench so that he could rest, recover from the stomach flu, get control of his temper or whatever was his

problem. Obviously, Josh S. had a problem or problems.

Such a pitiful preformance by Josh S.

We desperately needed a fast PG. He slept on the bench. Woody doesn't trust him to play. Might cost the Hawks

the game. OOPS! They lost without blame on him. Oh, well.

This is why I have been saying all year that losing a few regular season games would be worth it if it meant we would have Teague as a viable part of the rotation in the playoffs. We chose not to develop him and now we are stuck without another option at PG when Bibby is struggling or unavailable for whatever reason.

Woody has had 91 games to TRY to find a way to deal with quick PGs... You´d think when you have one of the quickest PG s in the NBA on your bench you would maybe consider giving him some type of role, if only as a defensive specialist. Oh well, after this series we won´t ever have to complain about Woodson anymore.

this team has a reputation of being dumb and lazy. Listen to people like Wilbon and Scoop Jackson or do a Google search for "Atlanta Hawks Basketball IQ" and report back.
