Hawks sign Damion James

This is a shining example of why the Nets struggle. Damion James is a quality player. Average handles, good stroke, tenacious rebounder, active player in need of motivation at times and NBA refinement. They have the guy for two years on a team that is tanking. They barely developed him, didn't let him play to his strengths. You don't trade for a guy, give him 16 and then 24 minutes a game but then give him little direction. You waste the trade and then the player. The guy isn't Lebron and is barely a Marvin type on his good day but for a player that can be had for 1/4th of what you paid Marvin, you don't give up on him after 2 years.

Does this mean that the Hawks won't be signing James Anderson? Does the team have another position or will there need to be another trade to accomodate Anderson?

It's a good question but Anderson was only a training camp invite to begin with. A lot of factors would go in to him making the team.

So we're not only "Golden State East" . . we're "New Jersey South"?The Hawks ARE over the salary cap though, so minimum contracts are all we can acquire right now. I believe we still have our bi-annual exception, but they may be holding onto that in case Ivan gets an above-minimum deal from somebody.

Guess Ferry sees something in Damian he does not see in Andersen. Both coming off injury hampered beginnings, but one gets a contract, while the other gets a camp invite.

One's a SG of which the Hawks have many, the other's a SF of which the Hawks have few.

Well okay, so MC is reporting that James is also on an unguaranteed deal so they will compete against each other for the last few roster spots come training camp. Already seeing an improvement with Ferry, he brings in drafted NBA talent to compete in training camp rather than the DLeague's B team.

Letting those 2 compete for the back-up SF spot is another bright move by Ferry. Trading some of the logjam and redundancy at SG for a starting caliber SF at least as good as Ducky, for less money, will be a stroke of genius. I bet he pulls it off.
