Out of 10, what's your opinion?

I like Payne.  High athletic big that can run the pick and roll.  Can hit the 3pt and can throw it down.  Good defensively and decent rebounder.  Very capable scorer.  Izzo product which I LOVE.  Go Sparty!  Go Hawks!

I like Tavares as well.  Long big with a ton of upside, especially defensively.  I can't imagine seeing him on the roster with Bebe and Payne.  Our bench is going to be STOUT. Draft and stash.

Lamar Patterson is a nice prospect at 6'5" and can shoot the ball.  3pt shooter. Maybe a draft and stash.

I think we drafted talent but wrong position

Coming back and getting Patterson could be huge. And we needed size and now we've got 2 big time potential projects in Bebe and Tavares to fill that hole at the 5.

PS - You gotta be loving the Cavs becoming Canada south!

Payne and Warren were the 2 guys I wanted at pick 15. I can't expect any more out of that draft position.

In the 2nd round he takes Tarvares....a 7'3'' center with a 7'9'' wingspan......sign me up for that upside all day.

To sweeten the pot we trade one of our many future 2nd round picks on a possible defensive specialist, Patterson, to use this year.

I'm ecstatic !!!

10- Patterson (Where they got him was crazy) I had him as an early 2nd rounder.

10- Tavares (Extremely crazy) I had him as a late 1st with potential to go higher due to his stashability.

6- Payne (Marcus Fizer Jr.) Not too hyped but he can be a fit.

8. I like our 2nd rounders a ton. They carried the draft for me. Last year draft is still the best I've seen in Atlanta history but this was the best 2nd round I've ever seen from Atlanta. Not that we ever have good ones. The Mike Scott one was seen as a good 2nd round for us in our history. Ugh.

A 4 year PF and a slow giant from Cape Verde...seriously?

Patterson could be a good pickup though - and really Payne may work out too as a journeyman (was just hoping for more at 15).

..

.

I'll switch to 3.

I literally cannot remember the last time you said something good about a Hawks draft pick.

Well y'know - I was just hoping for something better. It's not like a Pee-wee league where everybody gets a trophy...you have to actually do good and we have been pretty "iffy" in that regard. I liked Chillz until he went to Greece.

You do realize that you hate Ferry right? Or don't you? Can't keep up.

I don't know enough about any of the players we selected or passed on to give a serious rating, but I'm pleased. Payne seems like a great fit and could contribute immediately. Tavares could be the next 2nd round center to become a valuable commodity similar to Omer Asik. Patterson is a decent-sized SG who can pass, shoot, and play defense. I'll take it.

My fear with Tavares is echoed by rotoworld:

The Hawks took C Walter Tavares with the 43rd pick in the draft.

The 22-year old just signed a three-year deal and won’t be coming over to the US for at least a couple years. He’s a giant at 7’3", 265 pounds, has the wingspan of a bus, and shot the ball well at ACB last year with 58.5 percent from the field and 72.2 percent from the line. Tavares doesn’t have much of a post-up game and he’s considered as one of the biggest projects in the draft. He may never play a game in Atlanta.

So we're not even going to be able to bring him over for two years and his potential for not being NBA ready is so high he may never play for us. That being said, as a second round pick, you can't blame them for taking a flier on a guy in the hopes that maybe he pans out.

Also on Patterson:

Pittsburgh guard Lamar Patterson was drafted by the Bucks at pick 48 and was then traded to the Hawks.

He is an all-around guy as far as basketball skills go, but he doesn't really have a set of NBA tools from a physical standpoint. Patterson is just 6'4" and is a bit hefty at 226, but he shot 38.3 percent on his triples and had 4.3 assists at the shooting guard spot. While the Hawks were thin on the wing due to some injuries, the Pitt Panther will need a lot to go his way to get in the rotation.

So again, a guy that we hope gives some kind of rotation minutes. Which I'm fine with.

I'm more worried about a 23 year old. By the time his rookie deal is over the guy will be close to 30. Just can't stand old rookies in any sport. I do think he'll be a good fit for our system though.  I'll give the draft a 6.

Whoa Sothron, Bebe doesn't have a post up game. Asik doesn't have a post up game. At least Bebe is good at PnR's and same for Tavares.

I give it a 7. Didn't love Payne until coachx vouched for him. He is a great talent but he is a pf. Stretch 4 or not, how can you have 3 pf's as your best players ..(Horford Millsap Paynr). I mean, don't you draft for BPS when ur not a championship team yet? Just confused is all.

Ps I'm a bit buzzed n somewhat tired lol

Eight, I think Payne is a future starter. Until I see at least one of the other two start; its not a ten. Then again, if Payne or any one player  becomes a all-star one day it is a ten.

Eight is an above average solid in my book, with 7 being average.

First of all I believe that Atlanta needs to trade somebody because if QO was placed for Scott and Mack then the Hawks will have no room and we don't have a D-League team either.

All three picks is solid "B" in my book with Payne brings another 4 that can shoot and Tavares is a project but he can be a gem for us and Patterson gives us a wing that we need.

Now we need to trim the fat and get a SF here.

I graded it a 8

-co sign with you on Payne! Great pick! We need a very good big man rotation and adding Payne may have just given us just that.....10

-Tavares was a great pick! I can see him and bebe being over here in 2 years ready to take on the nba, love the pick but right now he's just a draft and stash....10

-Lamar Patterson...you say this is a nice pick...I say this is our best pick! I'm really high on this guy. I feel he's our Kwahi Leonard pick, not that he plays like Leonard but the Patterson pick feels like bud has a lot to do with it. The guy is a good size SG at 6'5 226 that's a good defender, savy scorer and above average passer!...Bud is going to mold this kid into something great! We will love this pick by mid season. I think this kid will get plenty of PT........10 (plus bonus from me)

I give this draft an 8 overall.

I absolutely love the direction that this team is going in terms of this year's draft and last year's draft as well.

-Payne can stretch the floor, gives us size and rebounding, athleticism, and defense. I love Millsap and he's a heck of a player, but expect him to be gone after this year. Hopefully we can at least get a 1st rounder in next year's draft for 'Sap.

-Tavares gives us yet another project BIG. Great rim protection, length, rebounding, and effective in the pick and roll. Between him and Nogueira we should have at least 1 legit center.

-Patterson gives us an all around good shooting guard and small forward if we play small ball (kind of hard too now that we're adding some big folks) who can shoot the ball, has good passing instincts, isn't a selfish player, and plays defense. I really liked Gary Harris and even considered him as one of my favorite Hawks' prospects. With Patterson we're getting a bigger and lengthier Gary Harris in terms of shooting ability and defense except Patterson is also a better passer than Harris.

I would love to sign Patric Young being that he went undrafted. We still might need help at center assuming that Tavares will be overseas and while Nogueira develops. Young is a big athletic & energetic defender who could come in right away an take up some minutes at C while Nogueira still develops. Goodbye Pero and hello Patric is my wish. Al, the Florida Gator, probably wouldn't mind this move.

Gary Harris is much better than Patterson. Gary is like a young Joe Dumars. Patterson is going to have to feel his way in the league like DMC, Scott, Millsap and others have done.
