Atlanta Hawks forward Pero Antić has told Macedonian media that he will not represent his nation at this summer’s Eurobasket.

 

The 32-year-old former Euroleague winner, who was originally picked in FYR of Macedonia’s preliminary squad, has decided to withdraw so that he can focus on next season as he is now a free agent.

 

Antić has stated that the players that helped the nation qualify for Eurobasket 2015 should be on the final roster.

 

It will be a massive loss for the Macedonians as they have to prepare for the Olympic qualifying event without their team captain.

 

Antić himself was not exactly a household name in basketball until Eurobasket 2011 when he was one of many stars that guided FYR of Macedonia to a surprise fourth-placed finish in the tournament, held in Lithuania.

 

 

Eurobasket will be in Zagreb, Croatia and kicks off September 5. Macedonia will be among Group C, which includes Georgia -- I wonder whether Zaza is in it this year?

Fenerbahce is considering Pero Antić for next season, according to sources.

The forward from FYR of Macedonia will be free agent from July 1 when his two-year contract with the Hawks expires.
Antić would love to remain in the NBA but he may consider also returning overseas in case of important offer.
Nothing is imminent tough.
Antić averaged 5.7 points and 3 rebounds per game this season with the Hawks
