NEW, DEFENSIVE SPECIALIST, HEAD COACH.

Gray Mule

Recommended Posts

What pass defense?  Now, what run defense?

Great offense, usually, until they get to the red zone.  Then, they become helpless most of the time.

Great start with a new, very defensive minded head coach.  Emotions carried the day for a while.

Can we now see that it wasn't our former head coach, it was instead the GM, who did not get the

players necessary to make up a winning team.

Falcons cleaned house, but didn't.  Now, we see the results.  Always good enough to be so close, only

to fail, week after week.  We did it again against Tampa Bay Bucs.  Next, we have the opportunity to

show how inept that we really are as we meet Carolina.

I think the defense gets too much criticism.     They gave up 2 touchdowns through 3 quarters yesterday.     Sure they need a better pass rush but they are keeping these games within reach especially considering how much they are on the field.

Kyle Shanahan can go as far as i'm concerned.   I did see some improvement in play calling but it's still a crummy offense and the guy acts like he's some kind of proven genius.

For his part, Shanahan doesn't think his offense is that difficult to master.

"This isn't the most confusing thing in the world," Shanahan said, earlier this week. "It's about playing and being in the heat of the battle and seeing and reacting. We'd be doing something else if we were all geniuses. We're all capable of learning this stuff, but that's not what this is about. It's about being through the situations, going against certain coverages, getting rushed through things and having to react to someone missing a block, having to get rid of the ball early and stuff like that."

Ryan is a proven, very capable QB.   Hell he's a pro bowl QB in his prime.   We have the best receiver in the league and two good backs.    The running game has been decent but receivers can't seem to get open in this offense.   The same receivers and the same QB that seemed pretty effective in the past.    We're a dude of an offense and frankly that's going to be a problem for attracting free agents.

Yeah, the D becomes the focal point but the O deserves more blame than they're getting.

I think Ryan deserves blame along with the OC.  You can't continuously lock in on Jones.  That's rookie stuff.  Also, the OC shouldn't need to sit him down and explain that he shouldn't throw the ball directly to defenders time and time again.

ETA: That quote you put up there makes it sound like all is not well between OC and Ryan.  IOW, Kial is not long for the Atl.  Surely they're not getting rid of Matthias.

3:1 pass run ratio....This offense blows.

There was a time when Matt was able to spread the ball around, now it's Julio first and every thing else last.  The defense knows that - this offense is predictable.

Why can't we have a jump ball attempt to Julio in the red zone - just one, smh.

I'm not sure all is well but what a dumb ass quote from Kyle.   I mean if Ryan was a young QB it would make sense but saying he's having a hard time recognizing what's going on is insulting even if you don't think Ryan is that good.    The interceptions are bad but in all these years are those types of interceptions typical of Ryan?   Hell no.  Quite the opposite.   So are we to believe that Ryan has just lost it all of a sudden?     I don't know.  It seems like they are expecting Ryan to be something he isn't but it seems like the opposing defenses are having an easy time covering our guys and to me that's more of an indictment of our scheme than our qb.

It's Ryan AND Shannahan.  The fact that the offense is so stagnant and predictable is Shanny's fault. The INTs are just straight up bad decisions by Ryan. He's trying to make something happen that just isn't there. Oh, and this offense is going to get Julio killed out there.

@hawkman explained it better than I could.  Honestly though, I never really bought into Ryan being that good in the first place.  Solid?  Absolutely.  Great/really-good?  At times.  So, the bad decisions and int's don't look overly out of character to me.

I think Ryan needs another solid receiving TE.  I think that will help lessen the bad passes he makes.

However, Ryan is better off in an offense where running the ball is the main focus. He is not Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.

That said, Kyle Shanahan sucks as OC... And the Falcons coach is another Wade Phillips.

This is it exactly although i haven't given up on Quinn yet because i think the Defense is actually overachieving for the talent we have.     But Blank should send a clear message that he won't tolerate mediocrity and fire Shanahan.   A solid, proven QB, best receiver in the game and two good RBs and we can't score a touchdown.   And maybe Roddy has lost a step i don't know but that's a pretty sharp decline.

Mike Smith is laughing hard at this pathetic franchise.

Not sure what you mean?  Falcons play tomorrow, right?

They certainly didn't show up for a game today.

Our interior lineman may be the worst I've ever seen. Ryan has no time to make another read beyond Julio. Whenever his head snaps to look in another direction the man is popped. This offense sucks...the line sucks but the defense isn't the issue.
