Good Start to Season

Only one game so nothing you can really make a prediction from but I liked what I saw.   I had hoped THjr would be a breakout player in his second season in our system and he broke out for one game.   Dwight made a huge difference on the boards and changing shots and defending the rim.  The bench played great.   Our deep shot was there and Milsap was his usual all around great player.  Based on one game most of my optimistic hopes for the season happened.  Dennis has to calm down and limit turnovers but all said after one game I pretty happy.   The next three games look easily winnable.   Hopefully the Hawks start hot and this team is everything I hoped for this season.  Again only one game but I liked what I saw tonight.

My thoughts from tonight:

Good:

-Howard's presence on the glass is/will be huge

-Sap was solid of course

-Bench is deeper and better than at any time in recent memory

-Good effort on defense

Bad:

-Dennis is erratic, and for every good play there's a bad play

-Sap is our only player with a versatile offensive game, everyone else  is either a shooter

(Korver, Baze), driver (Dennis), or dunker (Howard), no creators

I'm hoping Delaney can be a creator. WAS defends Korver so well, when he's not covered so tight, he is a playmaker.

Millsap's defense against stretch bigs concerns me. Morris went off 20+ pts. He literally look a step slower trying to cover them. Morris isn't a big PF like KP either, this match up should have worked in Millsap's favor. NBA are getting more athletic stretch 4s, I'd hate to see Tobias Harris, Love, Draymond etc. light up Millsap in crucial games. It's nice he can score 30 pts but what good is that if he gives up 30+ pts. Maybe Bud need to try Thabo and Prince at PF sometime.

The only bad feeling I got was so many turnovers in which almost everyone was involved though Dennis seemed the most blatant. First game of the season and thats the only complaint I have so there were truly a lot of positives and we now have serious physicality in the paint. The game around the glass felt the opposite of us last year in the playoffs. Too early to over analyze though so enjoying the win right now.

Nothing to be too concerned about ...millsap wasn't even in the game for the majority of Morris pts from what I can remember....that was muscula getting scored on for the majority of Morris points but I will confirm after I rewatch the game. Also I wouldn't worry too much about the defense on Morris as someone pointed out it seem to be the gameplan to force someone else to score and take over the game other than beal or wall.

we saw bud do that in the playoffs vs the cavs with love. Bud left love open on purpose to slow down kyrie and lebron in game 4 (admitted it in the post game interview). While the strategy of slowing down lebron and kyrie worked that game, love proved Bud wrong and probably had his best offensive night in the whole playoffs that game. So all of that is to say Morris was called on by bud as in "prove to me" you can score and if you do I'll make adjustments.

Bud likes to gamble here and there....

Agreed....

turnovers and learning how to feed Dwight are my two biggest concerns after game 1.

I see. Yeah, you can't slow down Kyrie and LeBron so I hope he changes his strategy soon. ATL got CLE in a few games in CLE.

This is definitely not true.  You mush have missed the THjr show last night.  This is the same team from last year with the exception of Teague and Horford.  I'm assuming you had the same criticism of our 60 win team too unless you are making the argument that Teague had the most variety to his game on that team.  You certainly can't be including Horford in that argument.  Anyway, I think variety defines our team!  We have a few specialist like Korver and maybe Howard but all the rest are very versatile!
