Popular Post TheNorthCydeRises
Solo is exactly right. But you can't expect guys who don't play defense, or are just physically mismatched, to lock in defensively. Coach has to put lineups out on the floor that have the ability to lock in defensively, especially if the offense isn't going. The Game Flow tells the story http://popcornmachine.net/gf?date=20210104&game=NYKATL I'm going to specifically focus on when John Collins and Clint Capela were on the floor together. The ( +/- ) stat can be misleading sometimes when looked at individually. Other times, it tells a clear story. John Collins was ( +11 ) in the game. Clint Capela was ( -1 ). Together though, they were ( +14 ). You may say, how is that possible? Here were the quarter breakdowns: 1st Quarter: ( -3 ) . . . . . 4:36 on the floor together 2nd Quarter: ( +11 ) . . . 4:15 3rd Quarter: ( +7 ) . . . . 6:08 4th Quarter: ( -1 ) . . . . 1:55 It was obvious when the Hawks broke the game open, that our best chance of winning was staying big, and keeping Collins and Capela in the game together. Even if one of those guys would not see "enough" touches on offense, the formula for the victory in this particular game, was to keep JC and Capela together. That duo was ( +14 ), but only played 16:46 on the floor together? And God bless Solo for being a vocal leader, but he's a big problem with that bench defensive unit as well. Because at 6-6 . . 250, HE'S one of the biggest culprits as to why we can't secure defensive rebounds when he's playing PF. He rebounds at the rate of a point guard. That's just not going to cut it when you're undersized, and trying to play PF. It also becomes a problem when guys can either just shoot over top of him, or bully him around the rim. And when you look at the BPM stat, it's not Bruno or Goodwin that is dead last among the rotation players. It's Solomon freaking Hill. LP preaches defense, but his adjustments are ALWAYS to enhance the offense. With the way Capela dominated the middle part of that game, for him to only get 7 minutes in the 4th was a travesty. LP elected to extend Huerter's minutes in that quarter, who gave him absolutely nothing on offense, but played 10 minutes in the quarter. 6

NBASupes
Its clear North is right. We are only going to win games due to our defense.
Premium Member Peoriabird Posted January 6, 2021 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 6, 2021 Solomon Hill = Vince Carter with hair which mean 10-15 minutes per night at a minimum despite the bad defense and poor rebounding.

He's a guy defenses cant ignore, he can flat out score. Far more consistent than Bogi, who is great when he's on, but as we have seen, he goes ice cold too. Gallo doesn't really have major shooting slumps, he cant get his shot off anytime.

It’s an excellent tool. If I had to guess at the order with only a limited amount of watch time and box score checking I would’ve swapped Reddish with Capela and had no idea where to slot Bruno. It passes my eye test about 70% of the time.

It requires a substantial sample size to be meaningful as well as taking into account the context of the team (and particularly a player's backup) to be useful.
