NBASupes
I was at the game last night and the one thing I kept seeing what no fear of getting to the lane by mid tier slashers of the Pistons. This is a critical issue even when we play a great slashing team like the Pelicans or the Pacers. While Milsap gives us versatility, scoring efficiency, and heady Basketball, he doesn't give us a defensive anchor or size that we so desperately need. So while I really like Sap, we need a defensive anchor with size. Also on another note, Jeff needs to be more patient on attacking screens offensively. That's a good way to get Al or Milsap a silly foul.
nathan2331
At this current moment, we need everything (go to scorer as well as an anchor). The pro- tankers have a point that to get lottery talent, one must be in the lottery. With any luck, the Nets pick turns into something nice for us. JTB
I agrees with you but here's the thing. Losing sap offensively is going to hurt the hawks badly. While we do need that rim protector most rim protectors in this league don't match to saps offensive ability.Let's take the heat game for example...yes we needed way better defense and someone to protect the goal but we also really needed some offense in that game! Even last night against the pistons, sap was really the only one scoring for us until Teague finally got it going in the 4th.I just see it as getting a defensive anchor/rim protector we are almost certain to lose a lot of offensive production. Lets insert asik in these last two games.....defense is better but offense would have been worst than what it was.....I guess at this point you just choose your poison. NBASupes
Bebe is small and he's two to three years away from a true impact on a decent team. He isn't the answer, future but not the answer for now.
frankthetank966
Relax. We know we need a center. Bud is doing the best he can to give the backup Centers quality minutes. He is evaluating if they are legit or not. Small sample size Ayón looks solid. Antić will be better once he stops trying to take 3pts.

Antić is okay but he's just what Petro was for us last year impact wise even if the skill-set is different. Not really filling our backup centers this year. I liked Zaza a lot more.
Premium Member Vol4ever Posted November 21, 2013 Premium Member Report Share Posted November 21, 2013 I agree Ayón shouldn't even be on the roster. Antić like Super said is a backup but cant be taken seriously. We miss ZaZa and I think for the money its stupid he wasn't resigned. Asik is not a shotblocking defender, yes he is a good rebounder. Im not sure we pick high enough to get a really good defender in the draft. I watched Asik last night and he is very limited in his game.
Moderators PSSSHHHRRR87 Posted November 21, 2013 Moderators Report Share Posted November 21, 2013 (edited) Step back from the tree and see the whole forest brah. ASA Dwight decided to sign with the Rockets, our dream of becoming instant contenders went with him. This organization as a whole is 4-5 seasons away from being legit. I agree that we need an anchor at the defensive end, but the last thing we need is Asik and anyone that thinks Asik makes us better is insane. I'd rather have Gortat (although I want neither). We need a center that can score, has a post-game, can rebound, AND can play defense (basically a bigger Horf). Asik just doesn't have an offensive game and Horf & Teague isn't enough offense to make up for that. Just to throw it out there, Noah is a FA in 2016 w/ Horf... Noah is a two-way player, can play inside and in the mid-range, great defensively, great rebounder, good FT shooter, crashes the hoop, has a ton of energy, and hustles hard. A Ferry guy through and through and a guy Horf is very familiar with. If Noah decides to leave Chicago, we could be a very attractive destination. Marc Gasol is a FA in 2015. Really, the Hawks right now is doing nothing more than showing the fans what Ferry and Bud wants to build and I have to say that if this is just the start, then the ceiling is endless. Every game I've watched this year, I've thought three things: [*]I love Horford and Millsap, but there isn't enough room in this town for two PF's. One of them will be used as bait and it isn't conquencidental that Ferry set up Millsap's contract the way he did. Both Horf & Sap's contracts are VERY team friendly based on production. As Greg Anthony said the other day, Horford is the best complimentary player in the league, so he'd net us the most talent and he'll be getting some lucrative offers in 2016, so he is the bigger fish of the two. [*]I keep seeing how great this team would be if we just had a go-to scorer. A guy with Joe's size and can put up 22 ppg consistently (and efficiently) from the 2/3 position. We also need a leader and a guy that the fans can relate to. Maybe not so much a Kobe or Lebron, but more of a Paul George or D-Wade type guy. Just a team-first guy w/ zero quit and is exciting to watch. I feel we will draft or trade for this guy within the next three seasons. I love Korver and DMC, but they are specialists and specialists don't start. To start on a contender in the NBA, you have to be a two-way player and well-rounded in all attributes. [*]The best thing to come from last offseason was Coach Bud. Guys want to play for him and that'll be key to developing young talent and attracting FA's here in the future. Hopefully he'll be our coach for many, many years to come. A nice 20 year stint would be sweet.Only one of the three is a sure thing right now. The other two, getting a two-way center and a go-to scorer, are going to be difficult to attain and will likely take years to find and overrated talent won't fix those two issues. The best thing the Hawks and Ferry can do is stand pat and see what 2014 offseason brings us. Then, if need be, trade Sap or Horf at the 2015 deadline for something. I'm not saying he's the answer, but he's like a cheaper, coordinated version of Zaza. Ayón per 36: 12.8 points, 8.5 rebounds. Shooting percentage is 0.684, earning $1.5 million.Zaza per 36: 11.1 points, 10.3 rebounds. Shooting percentage is 0.360, earning $5.2 million. Certainly Ayón's shooting percentage won't hover around 0.70 all year and Zaza's will get better, but Goose deserves some minutes.
Popular Post MaceCase
Detroit currently has 2.....and the worst defense in the league. The Hawks meanwhile have just jumped into the top 10. Sample size and all but the problem is that people often focus on only one or a few parts of what they think actually makes an overall good defense. I'll give you a hint, it's not just some stiff standing in the middle that can block a few shots.

If we played WC teams that are good, our defense would be in the bottom ten.
WraithSentinel
Gortat is a FA after this season A good rebounder and shot blocker. I wonder how much it would take to sign him? My guess is $9-$10 mil per over 4 years. This will be his last big contract since he will be 30.
