If we can get him while keeping Mack and Scott of course it's a no brainier compared to giving up assets to get Chandler, who the staff doesn't seem interested in anyway.

I'll take everyone's word that he can flourish here, I didn't exactly tune in to the Lakers. In Johnson's and Hardaway's case, they deserve the benefit of the doubt that they sank with the ship in their past stints. Rough and rugged Bigs like Jordan Hill are the only types who can shine in spite of being surrounded by such incompetence at all levels of a franchise.

Remember Squawk, this is the same Lakers fanbase that said Kent Bazemore couldn't defend last year. Wesley has been a solid defender throughout his career, now all of sudden he goes to LA and is not a good defender. Lakers fans were more upset that he couldn't handle the ball and score. Lakers need an excessive amount of talent, not 3 and D specialists for their team.

 

I love the fact that he has a knack for blocking shots and can throw it down in transition. Underrated passer as well. Wes could be a steal for us. I hope it is longer than a one year deal if we get him.

Bazemore is an 8th man at best. He has some talent, but I seriously doubt that he is going to get much better than last year... And his impact lessened in the 2nd half of the year. More minutes meant poorer shooting from him last year. He does a little bit of everything... And by little, I mean LITTLE.

Johnson could be another diamond in the rough. He can at least start early in the season. Note: I'm super Co cerned about the wing due to injury, so building depth is key to me

Wesley could definitely start for this team. Whoever starts at SF is gonna be spot starter anyways. Just because he starts doesn't mean he has to average 30+ minutes a game. I would prefer Timmy Jr. off the bench considering we need some scoring there. Korver needs to start slow this season judging from all the surgeries he has had to endure this offseason. The more I think about it the more I like Korver and Timmy Jr. off the bench at times with Splitter/Tavares controlling the paint. Their spotty perimeter defense will be hidden because we have an anchor in the paint now.

 

I agree. From what i saw of him, he CAN start for this bunch at small forward. I see more potential there than when they got DMC.

Can Scott not play SF? I know his defense is suspect, but he has the size and seems to be a little quicker than Milsap to me? Since he likes to play on the wing maybe giving him solid minutes every game would help his confidence and we could see him bust out.

Anyone else find this ironic? Allegedly it was between Wes and Demarre in 2013 when we were looking for a SF and Wes declined.

 

2 years later.... we are in a similar situation..... only now Demarre is $60 million richer and Wes is still looking at a similar price range for his contract. 

 

Will he make the same mistake twice?

with the status of the current free agent market, this move makes the most sense IMHO. I have never been a fan of Wesley Johnson, but he has physical tools and has always been marred by terrible team situations, so who knows... maybe he's Demarre 2.0
