Thabo Q&A on AJC

So here's an interview with Thabo.   And on a side note (and I apologize to C-Viv if he reads this) this is the most terrible opening line to an article in a major newspaper i've seen.   What the hell does this even mean.   I promise, read the article, there is no context to this at all.   How does this even get by an editor

I take it that Thabo's daughters attend school in Atlanta or the US in general so he had to return so that CPS or whatever truancy agency isn't knocking at his door.  You know he already has that "troublemaker" label amongst the law enforcement community, can't give them any chance to get back at him.

Back in the day school started back in September for me.

The whippersnappers up here still go back early September but I always remember teasing the kids  that had to go back to school late August.   That extra week or two of flaunting our wheelies on huffies while those kids watched from behind windows was always enjoyable.

Late August?   Atlanta schools were August 3rd.    In reality most kids in the country just get the same 10 weeks off just different start dates.   But that going back August 3rd suxxx

Regardless of what it means, it goes to say that AJC's Sports Editor doesn't give a flip what C-Viv does.

No doubt, but Atlanta gets out of school around May 20th whereas northern schools get out about a month later.   I'm just saying that I don't think any public schools in teh country have 3 month/13or14 week summers anymore.   We're down to 10 weeks and if the school systems had their way they get it down to 8 or less.    Going to school August in Atlanta is just stupid.   They claim that they'd have to run the AC anyway because the buildings are in use but that's just BS.   Certainly they wouldn't have to run as much as when you have 1000 kids in the building.   We're talking 1000s of dollars.

On the opening sentence, i just find it poorly written as you have to make big inferences and even then it's nonsensical.     So you have a sentence that requires that you already know that Thabo has kids that live somewhere in the US, Thabo doesn't live with his kids in the US, and I guess he's here to walk them to school on the first day?    And then the literal meaning of the sentence is 'Life with school aged children means that you have to return to the US to start the NBA season early'.   Yeah ok.   I know i'm nitpicking but come on.

It's th eoffseason - nitpick all you want, besides it's C-Viv and his lazy writing.

Public school around my parts always started the second Monday of August when I went, and this year it was even earlier, they went back the first Tuesday which was the 2nd.

The fun part of making the kids go back earlier is they do during the hottest part of the summer. In May it's hot but it doesn't seem as bad as it is in mid/late July-first two weeks of August especially.

So all of these comments and nobody has said a word about the article...lol. Thabo is dropping bombs in this interview! The staff over at Peachtree Hoops and their nuthugging on Horford are certainly going to hate what Thabo has to say.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution caught up with Sefolosha and he spoke about a number of subjects including the changes to the roster with the addition of Dwight Howard and a rookie class, how the offense will be different next season and his thoughts about entering the final year of his contract.

Here are excerpts of the interview:

Q. Generally, what are your thoughts about the offseason changes to the roster?

A. Things have changed a little bit. It’s going to be a new season. I think we have a different dynamic now. It’s going to take a little bit to get used to I’m sure but I think it’s a good change for us. It’s going to bring some toughness, I think. Hopefully, we’ll be competitive.  (Did Thabo just call Whorefart sawft? I do believe he did   Either that or Teague and/or both. Considering his comments about Teague and Schröder below, I'm pretty sure he just took a big dump on Al's manhood.)

Q. Dwight Howard will replace Al Horford and Dennis Schröder will replace Jeff Teague. Specifically how do you see the team being different next season? First with Howard?

A. (Howard) is not as much of a stretch-5. Al could really pick-and-pop and shoot the ball. I think Dwight is going to me more of a force close to the basket. I think it’s definitely going to have an impact on the defensive end and the intensity that we play with. It’s definitely something that we were missing. So I think he’s going to come and fill a big void that we had in that area.

 

Q. Second with Schröder?

A. I love what Jeff was bringing to the team. It’s always tough. Dennis has an incredible talent. He’s going to be great. He’s going to be the point guard. It’s going to be tough. I think we are all going to help him. I think it’s a tough position to be so young and to have so much on your shoulders. I think it’s going to be on all of us to help him. Help him and Dwight. The relationship between the point guard and the (center) is going to be huge. I think early we have to establish something good for them to feel comfortable and it’s going to be on us as veterans, guys like me who have been with the team for a period.”  (Sounds like Thabo definitely feels the bigger loss is Teague, not Whorefart.)

Q. I’ve been told that the power forward and center are interchangeable in the Hawks’ system. That won’t be the case this season with Howard being a traditional center. Do you think that will be the case?

A. On the defensive end, it’s still possible. On the offensive end, we have a style of play that we move the ball so much. Yes, I think what Al was doing – catching the ball up top and swinging and going to the pick-and-pop – now it’s going to give us some different options by rolling to the basket a lot more, bringing some force to the basket, maybe giving guys open shots on the outside. It’s going to be interesting.

Q. Also, I’m told that the presence of Howard will open up some outside shooting. Do you agree?

A. That’s common knowledge of basketball. (I think Thabo just challenged CViv's manhood too. What, do you think I'm stupid or something? )  Guys rolling to the basket who are that athletic obviously he can go and get it and dunk it. They are going to have to guard that. We are going to have a little bit of a different feel. Maybe it’s going to be a little more open on the wings. There were times when we had all five guys outside of the 3-point line last year. That’s going to be different.

Q. How long of an adjustment period with the changes?

A. Nobody can tell. The best thing to do is embrace the process and not worry if things are going the way we want the first two weeks of the season. For us, it’s going to be about building a team. Then when we go on the court – win or lose – if we fight together and everybody feels like family and everybody embraces their role we are going to be good.

Q. Do you look at it like they’ve made these changes and you’re going to be better next year? How do you look at where you fit in the spectrum of the Eastern Conference?

A. We’ve lost in some aspects. We’ve gained some with Dwight coming – great player, incredible talent – so I think it’s hard to say. We lose a guy like Al, you can’t say if it will be easy to get something that he was bringing to the team. Overall, I think we’ve still got a good core group of guys. It’s going to be on us to be a team and play as a team and to win games. (Sounds like he thinks we might have taken a step back losing Teague, but taken a step forward swapping Al for Dwight.)

Q. What do you think of the incoming rookies?

A. Taurean Prince has a body that is NBA-ready. I think he’s going to be able to provide some minutes fairly quickly. Malcolm (Delaney), he’s a seasoned rookie. I think he’s also going to help us, especially with Jarrett Jack being new to the system as a backup and Dennis being so young. I think Malcolm is going to be a big plus.

Q. What have you been doing this summer?

A. I was working the whole summer. I realize it was a big summer. Also, with the changes, it’s going to bring some more opportunities for me offensively. I’ve been working on all that, feeling great, body feeling great, ready to go.

Q. What are your thoughts about going into the final season of your contract?

A. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t in the back of my mind. Once it is basketball season, I believe that if you take care of what you have to the rest will take care of itself. I’m going to focus on what I can control, play my game and take it from there.

All we needed as a finisher was for Thabo to throw some shade at the NYPD. Oh well.

I do feel like we'll feel the loss of Teague more.   He was our #1 or 2 offensive player so that's not easy to replace.   Looking forward to better 1-5 defense though.

I also feel like the addition of Teague to the Pacers is going to put them near the top of the conference.   Despite Hill's good numbers it was obvious they lacked a weapon at the point.   They have one now to go with PG.

Thabo was pretty much throwing haymakers at Horford. Direct shots about how Dwight brings toughness, rebounding and intensity. It was so apparent that Horford was not the same player after that second pec tear. Glad to know it isn't just Hawks fans* seeing it.
