Sorry...I was covered up last week and missed so much of this thread. I'm a Steven Adams fan, so a Thunder fan by default. I really think they are putting together a team that will be difficult to beat. There's so much focus on the other big teams in the West, but I think they're going to surprise everybody. Melo wasn't a good fit last year and it hurt them, especially in the playoffs. They probably need one more piece (perimeter shooting).

LucastheThird
I don't pick again until #93 but I'm extremely excited to welcome Jayson Tatum and Colin Sexton to the Monsters Among Men. Ordering Rihanna’s phone number is probably out of the question, but Christopher Emmanuel Paul (Point Guard, 6'0", 175 lbs., Age 33) can fetch you basketballs on platters for days. Bon Appetit! Aside from the well-documented playoff-career shortcomings, among the things that give future Hall of Famer Chris Paul notoriety is the fact that in every NBA stop he has been in, he has never been the highest-paid player on his team. That changes in Lethalopolis with CP3 joining the Tender. By most observations, Paul has still got it defensively. He received the highest vote tally of any player not making an All-Defensive 1st or 2nd Team, barely missing out on joining fellow Tenders Victor Oladipo and Joel Embiid for that honor in 2017-18. Not that he needs such hardware. Paul has been named to that team nine times in the prior ten seasons, including each of the previous seven. Paul will serve as a second coach on this roster, quarterbacking the team’s defensive strategies while raising up its young stars the right way. Even while playing alongside a high-usage player who led the league in assists in 2016-17, Paul still managed to finish 6th in per-game assists. Playing more off-ball alongside a backcourt scorer, much like the newly-established scorer Oladipo, Chris continued to shoot the rock well from deep (38.0 3FG%) last season. Meanwhile, he improved his offensive efficiency, nearly eliminating the long two-pointer shots he has long been accustomed to shooting (11.0 percent of his FGAs, down from 26 and 28 percents the seasons prior). This paid dividends at playoff time, when he nearly carried his team to a Conference Championship upset and a trip to the 2018 Finals. Paul remains as sure a shot as the charity stripe as you’ll find, his 91.9 FT% finishing 2nd in the league. A torn hamstring in the playoffs showed up at a most inopportune time for Paul, and it remains to be seen how much his lateral movement and vertical will be further hampered at his advancing age. While he has a shiny new contract extension to live up to, over the next four seasons, Paul will need an understudy to pass the baton toward for the Tender to sustain its championship-quality pedigree. For now, with Paul, Oladipo, and Embiid among the league’s Top 20 in Player Efficiency Rating, this is a solid and balanced Big 3. If CP3’s physical core holds up long-term, the title-contending core in the near-term will, too. A fella who has always been a wiser selection than CP3 is up next... @Marvin24Williams has been P to the M'd! ~lw3 dragging my feet on these, but Updated! ~lw3
Moderators lethalweapon3 Posted July 31, 2018 Moderators Report Share Posted July 31, 2018 On 7/27/2018 at 9:19 PM, lethalweapon3 said: In the 4th Round, with the 40th Pick in the 2018 Hawksquawk Summer Dynasty Draft, the Lethal Tender selects: No, see, Lauri Elias Markkanen (Power Forward, 7'0", 230 lbs., Age 21), in America, when we simply ask you to find a way to blend in, we mean with your Tender teammates. We don’t mean into the wall! He’s among the many European prospects who watched from afar, as a child, while a seven-foot legend grew in stature by perfecting his outside jumper to become an offensive tour de force. Now, Lauri Markkanen comes ashore, and the man from Helsinki is already giving opponents hell sinking threes. And that’s not all. Markkanen defied early expectations by out-ranking all the newest 2017 draftees with 7.5 rebounds per game (2nd-overall among all rookies). He also tied for third among the 2017 draft class with 15.2 points per contest, more than anyone drafted ahead of him. Strengthening that scoring tally was an ample green-light from the three-point line, where Lauri Love shot a respectable 36.2 3FG%, including 41.1 percent during the rare times his underwhelming team won games last season. As is often the case with most rookies, Lauri has to become a stronger finisher around the paint, as shooting 34.3 FG% between 3 and 10 feet from the rim won’t cut it long-term. Victor Oladipo and Joel Embiid will demand double-teams, so there will be times Markkanen will be open or lightly defended at the wing, and he must make sharp decisions on when to catch-and-shoot, and when to drive to the hoop. Drawing fouls when choosing the latter will be advantageous with his solid 84.3 FT%, but Paul can help him expand his threat as a disher, too (a paltry 6.4 assist percent last season, albeit with some lousy passing options sharing the floor). His second-place finish in the All-Star Weekend’s Skills Challenge demonstrated the 21-year-old has more versatile skills yet to be fully-unearthed. Markkanen also possesses the size to become a stronger on-ball defender in the paint. That will be needed to take pressure, and particularly the necessity of fouling, off Embiid. Alongside the right co-forward, defensive improvements can make the jump-shooting seven-footer useful as a backup “small” forward, or as a backup center in stretchy small-ball lineups. He wasn’t supposed to be relied on much during his rookie campaign, but a spate of unfortunate events pushed Markkanen to the forefront. Now, even with a more reliable cast surrounding him in 2018-19, it will be hard to keep the Finnish forward off the center stage. Don't be such a wallflower, Lauri! The floor now belongs to the Spud-dazzling @Spud2nique! ~lw3 updated... two more to go! ~lw3
