The Trae vs Luka trade fully reverses next year

This is my prediction for next season but I know more eyes will be on us next year. If we develop individually and as a team as we should more people will be debating the Trae and Luka swap as an evenly matched swap. What's going to put us over the top is when Cam Reddish reaches star potential as well.

When people realize we got 2 stars out of that trade and one of those stars can guard Luka the narrative is going to change completely. I know some of our own fans don't see it and believe but mock my words the "hindsight" of this trade is going to go down in history as one of the greatest moves for our franchise and the root cause of changing the narrative of our Atlanta Hawks for years to come.

I wish I could take a look at the Mavs fans faces after the game 6 by Cam. Cam is gonna light it up next year. Funny if he has a great game against the Mavs.

You are right. Luka falling to us was the best thing that has happened to us. It was almost like getting the number one overall pick. The VALUE is what was important. Luka was so valuable he netted us Trae and Cam. If he doesn’t fall to us, it is likely we still would have taken Trae, but we would have no Cam. Free money. It is like we actually won the lottery that year.

I'm here for it.  The conversation has already been debated a bit throughout the playoffs on the national shows.  

I've come to realize the reason the narrative was so lopsided was because no one watched the Hawks play but Hawks fans.  They only had like five nationally televised games in three years.  This why other fans on other message boards would say that Trae wasn't a great passer, ball hog, stat padder, etc. 

I'm curious to see how many nationally televised games we get next season.  Pretty sure it'll be more than five and may actually get a Christmas Day game against the Knicks!

Cam is the key. The narrative now has become that it's a win-win for both. If/when Cam breaks out is when you can start to pile on top of the critics even more

But do realize, now that the playoffs are over, the hype around Trae and the Hawks will die down again. People will go back to Lebron hugging. They will even prop Zion up above Trae again. 

And don't let Ayton get a ring. They will put his name back in the convo from the 2018 draft and say he was the best pick after all. 

Narratives and the media cycle take lives of their own. Logic is not important. Just hype, relevance, and what can drive reactions.

We know what we have going on, and that's enough for me.

I actually think it might come down to factors outside of skills and stats.

If Luka demands a trade, or if Trae does.  

If Trae can attract and retain better players.  Who is the better recruiter?

This too. I actually think it is easier to build around Trae because he has a traditional role.  It is hard to put guys around Luka because he eats into their roles so much by the way he plays. He is taking assists from the traditional point guard, rebounds from the forward and center, points from the shooting guard.  Big time players will be hesitant to play with him.

That would be kind of funny if they did that based on him being the 3rd best guy on the floor for his own team.  He was probably a bit closer to Mikal Bridges than he was to Trae Young as far as being the best guy on his team.  I like Ayton but if you take away the players better than Ayton from Phoenix, they might have the #1 pick this year.

I'm happy that Cam has a new agent and that he's still a Hawk.  Squawk posters know.  Many others have forgotten how the original deal was worked.

Would any of you reverse the deal, right now?  Reddish and Young for Luka - - Even swap?

Me neither!  Yet, that is the deal where others try to say we goofed.  Like a sly fox in the hen house we did!  Sometimes I'm still amazed with what Travis has accomplished.  Every time something happens, I think, Wow!  He's done it again!  Not once but twice in this summer's draft.  And that new center.  He's been doing well this summer.  And a new back up PG.  

I know.  I'm a homer.  But, two all star (potentially) players for Luka.  What can we say.  Wow!

I am already where I wouldn’t trade Trae back straight up - mostly because I think he gels with other players much better.  But if Cam even turns into merely a consistent, positive contributor on offense that will be enough with his standout defense to turn this to a clear win regardless of whether he beats out Bogi.  Trae and Luka are basically equals at this point in everything but the amount of positive press they get.

I said that Reddish was the key in one of my posts going into last year. If he pans into an average player, it's an even swap in and of itself. But if he becomes so good off the bench and in spot starts to the point where we're looking at Bogdanovic as a major asset in the trade market a year from now, the Hawks won that deal all hands down. And from just watching him play with confidence in the Milwaukee series, I have a feeling that we're going to see the latter, especially with Nate Dogg running the show on a full-time basis.

Once again, what a great time it is to be a Hawks fan right now. We have a superstar player who doesn't shrink in the big moments; in fact, he fully embraces them. We have a loaded roster full of young, talented players (no Adam Keefes or Doug Edwardses on this crew) and established veterans who can still play when called upon. We have a head coach who appears to know what he's doing and a front office who plays chess while others are still learning how to play Connect-4. And to go even one mile further down the street, the locals here have noticed; ticket sales are to the point where they might be sold out for the season by Thanksgiving if not sooner.

The key to rebuilding is not messing up the draft and Schlenk has went way beyond not messing up.  I think if the current NBA GMs went back and redid the 2018 draft, Luka would easily be the top pick, I presume by each GM.  Luka is easily currently a top10 NBA player.  Whereas even with his playoff performance, Trae is still widely viewed.  So we drafted then traded off a superstar.  Generally you can't do that and not call that a mistake.

If Cam becomes an all star and Trae is still viewed as just all star level, we still lost the trade.  So really the key is one of them must be viewed as a superstar.  Another post season like this last one would actually practically push Trae past Luka on the superstar scale.  The key is can he do it again.

Either way, it's cool that it's debatable, and we traded away a superstar.

What's your definition of a superstar and what puts Luka so far ahead of Trae?  What makes you say Trae needs to do it again to be considered a superstar? 

Trae is clearly the number two player in his draft and he's now widely viewed across the league as a star.  The consensus is he's at a minimum a top 20 player in the league at 22. Most have him top 15. 

The only thing that separated Trae from Luka in the eyes of many across the league was exposure.  Trae got exposure during the previous playoff run and many started to say he was a superstar.

Imagine being a Hawks fan and not thinking Trae is a superstar.
