Josh Smith eyeing coaching career

 

Josh Smith is working with the National Basketball Players Association, and he spoke during his time with the NBPA during the HBCU Top 50 Camp in Atlanta. “I have different passions now, going into the next chapter of my career and life,” Smith said. “I wanted to do coaching. The NBPA has great programs for us to reach the needs that former players need to be reached.”

When asked about his long-term goals, Smith wants to coach in the NBA, saying, “I was a professional player, so I plan to eventually coach on the professional level one day. That’s definitely one of my dreams that I want to accomplish. And I think I’m taking the right steps to get there.” Currently, Smith is assisting on the high school level and gaining experience on the AAU circuit, where he coaches an 8th-grade and a 4th-grade team. He was also one of the coaches during the Top 50 camp, focusing more on the players’ skill and IQ development than just the wins and losses.

Unfortunately, the 34-year-old was used as trade fodder, and he still has some hard feelings about it. On the Italian A Cresta Alta podcast, Gallinari revealed that he’s looking forward to exact revenge against the C’s next season. “I can’t wait to play against Boston,” he said. “When the schedule will be unveiled, I’ll put an X on the games we will play at Boston against the Celtics.”

I miss revenge from the 80’s and 90’s in basketball. These days the players are practicing with each other, hanging out and being friends… I dunno, I liked it when foos hated each other.

The others on this list have way more to prove than Trae. Quin helped address some of Trae’s scoring efficiency (fewer shots) and defense (way more active) issues when he took over, but these need to continue to improve. Infusing the new coaching staff’s offense should help address off-ball movement as well. Trae is notorious for slow starts to the season, but hopefully he’s healthy, rested, and laser focused on these areas for Quin’s boot camp so we can carry that chip all the way to the promised land!

“For his scoring efficiency to shrink to that extent is concerning, particularly with Young being a player who doesn’t defend well or move much off the ball.
