He actually posed a great question.  Construct a championship roster.

Here are your restraints:

  • You can only use 2 guys who are All-NBA talents
  • Your 3rd guy has to be a best, a fringe All-Star talent . . ( no more than 1 All-Star appearance )
  • The remaining 2 starters cannot be All-Star talents
  • And you cannot use more than 2 guys off of the same team to construct your team.  This means that you can't simply take Jokic, Murray, and Gordon, and add 2 more people to round out the team.

Build what you think would be a championship level team.

If Peoria isn't willing or able to do this, how about someone else take a crack at this.  Should be pretty easy, right?

I like this and will give it a try 🙂  I'll do starters and backups without going into Lux tax.

2 all nba talents -  Joker + Butler  2 guys who can pretty much do it all.  Joker is best player in NBA and Butler is clutch while bringing the defense leadership and toughness my team will need in the playoffs.

1 fringe all star talent  SGA -

2 non all stars  at SG and PF - Desmond Bane  and Evan Mobley

PG - SGA
SG - Desmond Bane
SF - Jimmy Butler
PF - Evan Mobley
C - Joker

Backups

PG - Derrick Rose
SG - Josh Giddey
SF - AJ Griffin
PF - Bol Bol
C - Mark Williams

5 cheap cheap guys to round out bottom of roster

PG - Jose Alvarado
SG - Aaron Wiggins
SF/PF - Jalen Johnson - To much upside for cheap not to put him here for me 🙂
PF - Mouhamed Gueye - Have to throw in a Hawk Rookie with upside 😄
C - Nathan Knight - He was super cheap and got me just under the Lux Tax limit by 366k 😛  Plus i liked him a bit while he was here.

Thats 164,927,709  Dollars used   with a lux taxhold of  165,294,000  Leaving me with  366,291  left over.

PG - Trae Young

SG - Desmond Bane

SF - OG

PF - Onyeka

Center - Jokic

Edit: I must have been under a rock, I didn't realize that SGA was first team all nba and 5th in MVP voting. That's really wild.

Crap i didn't either i guess i gotta fix that real quick then shouldn't be to tough to do though with Tyrese Haliburton sliding in. It probably saves me some money to build a better back end of the roster.    Also i just found out by changing out wiggins with Schofield on top of the Haliburton move.   That i now am under the normal cap limit not even the Lux Tax lol.    I still got 507k to spend before i hit the 135.5 mil cap number.  While now having 30 mil to spend before i go into Lux Tax.  I can do some big time upgrades on that depth chart.

Updated roster with the SGA news and a better depth chart now

Starters

PG - Tyrese Haliburton
SG - Desmond Bane
SF - Jimmy Butler
PF - Evan Mobley
C - Joker

Backups

PG - T.J. Mcconnel
SG - Josh Giddey
SF - Saddiq Bey
PF - Tari Eason
C - Onyeka Okongwu

End of bench possible backup replacements future starters or specialists for defense etc...

PG - Jose Alvarado
SG - Alex Carruso
SF - AJ Griffin
PF - Jalen Johnson
C - Mark Williams

This got me to 164,650,250  dollars of   165,294,000  lux tax limit  leaving me with  643,750 before i hit lux tax.

Very good question. We have the tools to look all of that info up.

The practical consequence of adding cap restrictions is ending up with a bunch of guys on rookie deals so you take an Evan Mobley or someone like that and save $$ while getting that high performance, high upside, and relatively cheap cost.

I think W. Hernangomez, a couple weeks ago signed a 3 year deal with Barcelona.

Ya I saw that but figured his salary was still on the books and in the mix to be able to be flipped in a trade.

He has a caphold but no active contract so he can't be included in a trade.

Pels need a center let’s flip big for big.

I don't really get how this would make us better.  Our defense would be much worse and our offense would be worse as well.  JV is a very average 3P shooter and not having Capela to run PnR actions would be a big loss to the offense.  JV has about a 6 inch vertical from watching him play.  Maybe the little bit of spacing he could provider would open up space for our wings to do something.

[__]  Great answer

[X] Didn't come close following the rules

Pretty sure a guy who was first team all NBA doesn't qualify as as fringe all star talent. 🙄

How about this:

PG: SGA (1x AS)

SG: OG (0x AS)

SF: Mikal Bridges (0x AS)

PF: Giannis (All-NBA)

C.:  Jokic (All-NBA)

[X] didn't come close to following the rules

Most of the energy right now is basically just ppl saying “We didn’t want him anyways” because the Raptors have been skittish to take our (likely low ball) offer, so the interesting thing will be if hes traded here, and how quickly everyones narrative shifts around his fit into the roster, his talent level, and his willingness to re-sign.

I don't agree.  From the very beginning of this, there were two very polarized camps on Siakam.  I could be wrong, but it feels like the disinterested party was louder.  The energy you're referring to is there, but it's more or less the "pass on Siakam" group breathing a sigh of relief that we didn't overpay.  I'm one of those who isn't interested in Pascal.  It's an easy pass for me.  Though, if we were to get him, and it works, I'd be the first to say I was wrong.  There's more rational posters than me who don't want him and they'd do no less than the same.

Regarding the narratives, I think there is a solid consensus about his talent level.  There's no questioning that and he's actually been a favorite of mine for many years.  He and Trae would be amazing.  But I haven't thought about him since we landed Murray and he has been even more of an afterthought in light of our 3pt shooting woes.

As it pertains to him re-signing, I think we all know this is just agent posturing in the silly season and is a nothing sandwich.  He's going to re-sign unless the season is a total disaster and we present him with some insulting numbers.  The latter being the most influential in his decision making...

If I'm being honest, the only thing that intrigues me is inserting Pascal (without giving up much) into a better Hawks offense that emphasizes spacing and ball movement.  Though I would much rather we go after a pure shooter in the starting lineup...even if they aren't all-star caliber.

I don't think you can genuinely say "we" here... I'm not going to scroll through and pull receipts, but the narrative that he doesn't want to be here and won't re-sign is reinforced by many posters every single time Siakam comes up.  That and people not understanding future cap space and market value.  Obviously, I'm fine with people not thinking the fit is good or not wanting to overpay -- that's why I come to this discussion board, to have deeper-than-surface-level back and forth on players, fit, salary cap, etc.  But there's not been much discussion around Siakam, unfortunately, other than hand-waving him away because of "spacing" and "3P shooting".  And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention this is another pass on Siakam post that doesn't mention or acknowledge defense.

And all of those players above good to very good starters for us.  They just didn't turn into All-Star level talents.

Both Bruno and McGee can play a backup center role, in which we're asking them to play 10 - 16 minutes a game to rebound, rim protect, and score off lobs and offensive rebounds around the rim.  No offense will be ran for those guys, so their worth will strictly be on the defensive end.  Anything we'd get offensively from those two, will be a bonus.

McGee is not worthwhile at this point and Bruno is a 10th man kind of player at best right now. OO is very foul prone and neither of those guys are up to having a big role.
