Not necessarily, coach and the  FO could value showing off other players now before they get traded over giving rooks playing time. 

Bufkin, Mo G, Lundy will get their chances, we just gotta think is that the highest prio right now with where the hawks are at?

Feels like the teams highest prio is not winning anymore, but more showing the value our vets have so we can extract more resources from whatever team we trade them to, and THEN the priorities might shift to giving rooks PT.

Of course it sucks and it's worrying that we're doing all this when we thought we would be winning, but at least no one is lying to themselves about this team anymore. Changes are coming, and we're pivoting in a positive direction.

Kobe's been killing it in the G-league, he'd probably be fine playing NBA minutes right now but its not the right time right now for him.

Minus picks + young players whatever, the framework is there to get a deal done that's better than what the Knicks have to offer - don't get hung up on details

This would be such a no brainer deal from Atlanta’s standpoint. By far the best package being thrown around but I have to assume this is what Hawks asked for and not what the Pelicans offered.

The only thing I don't like about this might be more about phasing.  Saying "we had a deal" is different in my mind from saying "we had an offer."  Having a deal implies it is good enough that you will act on it at least in the absence of something better.  Having an offer doesn't mean you are ready to transact just that you have something on the table to consider and leverage.

Grimes, Fournier-filler, and what were likely low first round picks some of which were years away is garbage.  We should not even consider transacting on a deal like that.  Leveraging it to drive up other offers sounds good but you better make it sound like the Knicks are offering more than that poo-poo platter if you want to use it as leverage.  That deal would be a Knicks dream come true.

So I'm 100% good with us taking maximum advantage of a bidding war but if all other offers fall through then just hold DM and try to trade him after the deadline if the best you can do is the reported Knicks offer.

Ok, let's play this out. 

We make the trade.   Immediately Trae is given the rest of the season to choose when he wants to play but it's mandatory that he get his shoulder back to normal before he plays again.  We look to see if we can trade CC for a big SG.

 

We run with Bufkin, Huerter, Keldon, JJ, and OO. 

In the draft, we pick up a SG and a C.  Let's say...JaKobe Walter and Ulrich Comache.

WIth this lineup, I guess we would be good for the Trae Exodus.

If, and when the Hawks trade Murray, someone must play the position he now plays.  Kobe Bufkin is the best we have to fill that position right now.  When we trade Murray and get back a 2 guard, that's different.  However, there is a chance that the player the Hawks get in return will not be a 2 guard.  Just trying to see that we cover all the bases!

Clearly with all the chatter, it’s not anything grounded in reality. Things are just not progressing as people think.. probably only 1% of the hype is real.

Every day media hype nuggets creating new angles on not only DJ but also Siakam, and other potentially moving parts. Probably 99.9% of it is hot garbage.

 

Until some team gets super desperate like the Knicks always are and submits a big offer… it’s a big nothing burger.

Totally fair.  I'm saying if the reported deal was the "deal" we had then our GM needs his head examined.   For my own mental health, I'm going to assume that the leaked potential deal is not anything LF would ever have consumated.

I have no idea what you mean by the first sentence. Saying the chatter is not grounded in reality is absurd, honestly. There's real talks going on that's been reported not just  by the "insiders" here but multiple national NBA talking heads as well. 

There's always more talks about trades than actual trades. The difference in this specific instance is this roster will be blown up to some degree between now and the start of next season. You can feel free to ignore all of the chatter as simply chatter if you want. Just don't be shocked then players are actually traded.

Jake Fischer first hinted at DJM re-signing.

Nobody had Bey coming to us.

Nobody saw Huerter going to the Kings.

JC moving to Jazz was linked but for only a 2nd rounder was never discussed.

I'm not going to go through all of the things myself and others called first that happened or almost happened like JC being traded to the Suns last year. If you don't believe what we are saying that is your choice.

The bidding is going how the hawks want/need. Knicks appear to be ready to up their offer to accelerate this process. I still think they are the favorite by far but other suitors made it interesting. The reality of even getting back 1-2 of those picks from the spurs really changes things. I don't think the spurs are a serious suitor but its enough to slow the process rather than have made a deal on Tuesday.
