It will be exciting to see what he does in his encore season with the Hawks. Put himself in the conversation as the top shooting guard in the league???? This is crazy talk. The guy is a role player period! He ain't even better than the current rendition of Derrick Rose 1

That was his healthy performance last season. 1

John has better stats than that over a long period of time and some on this board think that he is a replacement level player not even worth Bogie's contract. I won't mention any names though. He was the most efficient guard (not just shooting guard) in the whole league offensively over the last 6 weeks of last season other than Steph Curry and, unlike Steph, he was an above-average defender too. Calling him a role player is just being a hater. Edited August 22, 2021 by niremetal 1

He is a fine starter and obvious upside playing with a better supporting cast as we saw last year. You keep acting like he didn’t beast for us when healthy last year.

Oh, you mean when he played his ass off even though he had a busted ankle and knee and still managed to be our only consistent offensive threat after Trae got hurt even though he could only really drive to his left? And while he led the league in playoffs steals through the end of the conference finals? Yeah, what a loser.
Gray Mule
His career, as a Hawk, counts the most, including what he did in the playoffs. What he did before this happened with a different coach and different team mates. Sure, that experience was what got him the $$$ contract. What he has done here is how he is earning that $$$ contract money now. He's one of ours and that's what matters now!

I guess I’ll have to concede that he isn’t the best shooting guard in the league. Shocking that we couldn’t get the best shooting guard in the league at his price and that a team wouldn’t match an offer to a restricted free agent who was the next MJ. Sigh. I guess I’ll have to give up on that. (He is a quality starter - not an All-NBA player.)

I also think that a lot of fans on this site overrate him in this manner. I just thought it was absurd to write an article concluding that he was in the conversation of being the best shooting guard in the league.

The article says he's in the conversation for being one of the best shooting guards in the league. Not the best. It never said the best shooting guard. That could mean top 10 shooting guards. He was in the conversation for being a top 10 shooting guard last year in my opinion. Edited August 23, 2021 by marco102

You have to be at least an all star to be one of the best shooting guards in the league and I doubt that Bogie has ever received 1 vote during his career. That's your specific definition and not sure why you are saying that's the definitive line of being one of the best. Trae Young was voted the 11th best guard in the East by the players. Does that mean he's not a top point guard? Bogi got two All Star votes from the players so he def did receive some.
