Really surprised this guy is still here at pick 88, but filling in for Klay Thompson until he gets back from injury:

GORDON HAYWARD

Perfect wing to spell Klay and PG in case of injury and can absolutely hold down my bench rotation. Finding an all-star caliber wing this late into the draft is a steal!

Wait WHAT? In 3 months he gained 25 pounds of what I’m guessing to be mostly muscle. 😬 That’s scary. @hazer‘s boy is gonna blow up next season nice pick.

With the 87th and 94th pick, we are solidifying an elite guard rotation for the present and future.  We think De'Aaron Fox is emerging as a top point but have taken a high upside gamble on our 87th pick.  He has been compared to Kyrie Irving for his offensive skills and elite perimeter shooting from the point and he showed all of that in his game last year.  Unfortunately, he also emulated Kyrie (outdid him one might say) by missing most of the season.  Nevertheless, he was still expected to go near the top of the draft based on scout's profiles on him as an elite prospect coming out of HS and he ended up going #5 despite the injury because of this promise.

And that promise was considerable.  He was a 4-time state champion and 3-time state Mr. Basketball.  McD All-American who led the game in assists.  In his short time as Vanderbilt's most decorated recruit in history, the 6'4'' point shot 54% from the field and 48% from 3pt range.  Small sample size but he dazzled the scouts in high school as well and we agree that he has all kinds of potential.  We're excited to have this exciting young point in the mix for the long-term:

Darius Garland

So Ashley and I have an idea how to bridge to the future combo of Fox & Garland - how about a point coming off 5 consecutive All-Star games and an NBA championship?  We think that works pretty well.  He'll make Garland earn his minutes by playing his normal tough D combined with elite shooting and effective ball movement.  He averaged a nice career high 8.7 assists to go with 14 points and 5 rebounds and 2 steals/blocks last season.  Despite missing 16 games last year, he put up another elite 6.6 Win Shares (his 6th consecutive season between 6.6 and 11.7) and promises to offer continued outstanding production off the bench for us moving forward.

So with the 94th pick, the U-Niques add:

Kyle Lowry

Should make for some intense practices.  Welcome to the club, Mssrs. Garland and Lowry!

With the next pick, the Atlanta Air Force selects
RJ Barrett
64331691_2185070154873670_29383198543316

Led the ACC in scoring (22.6 ppg) 7.6 rebounds (10th in ACC) and 4.3 assists (5th).

  • 2018-19 National Player of the Year by USA Today.
  • Finalist for Wooden National Player of the Year Award.
  • Earned Consensus All-America First Team honors.
  • Jerry West Award winner, given annually to the nation’s best shooting guard.
  • Broke the ACC freshman scoring record, previously held by
  • Georgia Tech’s Kenny Anderson (721) in 1989-90.
  • 2017-18 National Gatorade High School Player of the Year.

RJ  Possesses an impressive blend of size, fluidity, and body control.  Has the dimensions and versatility to fill several roles standing 6’7 with a 6’10 wingspan and a steadily improving 208-pound frame to go along with an unflappable scorer’s mentality. Barrett's overall skill set could still use some polishing if he's to live up to the expectations , but i couldn't think of anyone better to learn from than Durant and Kawhi.
