Reddish, Fernando, Huerter, Young, Hunter, Collins. That's 6. 1st round 2020 will be 7. Goodwin is 24 Bembry and Capela is 25. So that's 10 players wo are going to be at least 26 years old or under by the end of next season. If you're talking about trading down to get a good 5 - 8 year vet player + a 1st round pick, in exchange for our lotto pick, then cool. But adding another 1st round pick? Nah. Why for Hawks? Get the #17 pick and fills the need at backup PF. Why for Wolves? Hawks fill the backup PG spot. Ideally Dallas would prefer to move Powell but he can't help on the court next season and his contract is 3yrs at $11 mil per. I haven't seen where that plan is for picking the primary, #2 backup. I'd be against that too. Rumors are just for A backup. 3rd string is my guess with Jeff or Goodwin coming back or FA signing. The salary numbers are their current cap hits including cap holds for free agents on their rosters. Target one of these and offer to take a high salary off of them for their pick. Philly is the best target here in my opinion though there are others. Horford has 2 years guaranteed at $27.5 and 27 million over the next 2 years. 3rd year is non-guaranteed and he can be waived without penalty. But their 21 pick is just not worth it. A trade up with Golden State is possible here given their cap situation but that's just trading up, not another pick and there is no evidence they're desperate to drop salary (though their LT hit this year is going to be enough to care about and they need a few more players to round out the roster). Basically, you would have to take on either Draymond, Klay or Wiggins in exchange for someone younger and cheaper (probably Hunter or Heurter, + Bruno) and you move from 6 to 2. But this isn't a 2nd pick. You then have to spin that player you acquired to a 3rd party for a pick. It's complicated but possible and would require Golden State wanting cap flexibility. Now comes Boston. The first rule of Hawksquawk is you don't talk about trading with Boston. The second rule is you don't talk about trading with Boston. But for the sake of the thread lets call them The Brad Pitts. The Brad Pitts have the 14, 26 and 30th picks in the draft. Gordon Hayward has a player option for this coming year worth $34 million. They would love someone to take this off their hands but aren't desperate to drop it. Taking Hayward for a 2nd could net you both 14 and 30. Enes Kanter has a $5 million player option and will probably opt out for a bigger payday. Theis and Javonte Green are both on non-guaranteed deals and will probably be kept. This leaves The Pitts (see what I did there) with 13 players and 3 draft picks and given an upcoming cap closer to $109 million, they'll be at least $31 million over the cap. So taking Marcus Smart off their hands for a future 2nd would definitely net 26 but could possibly net 14, especially with some tweaking. Taking Smart off their hands gets them under the LT and a bit of room to play. You all can plug and play the rest. warcore Posted August 24, 2020 Report Share Posted August 24, 2020 I think Philly is the most likely given where the pick is and their horrendous situation. @JayBirdHawk of the Wolves/Mavs ideas, I'd prefer the Mavs not for the pick, but Delon would be a nice backup for the roster and James Johnson would not be.
