Strange. Very strange.

Ive been there before. Didn't have an issue. The friend I met was a gorgeous dark skinned girl sitting at the bar alone giving off hella escort vibes by flirting with the nearby (older white) guys. Then I show up and she pretends we were together to end the exchanges after they just bought all her drinks.

It looked like we were running some sort of scheme. I was annoyed with her and almost left. I say that to say, they probably could've understandably asked us to leave and be justified but didn't. I wonder what the deal was with Nique, I hope it was just a misunderstanding.

Atlanta got way too many escorts and I used to friends with guys who ran high end escorts services. Don't ask me how, I got friends in all circles of life. I didn't use his company's services, we were just friends.

I think if he is going to publicly make an accusation he should go into more detail about what happened. If the restaurant did something that suggested discriminatory behavior, by all means call them out, but in the interest of fairness, an account of what happened should be provided.

I was friends with a guy that ran "tours" to Russia where guys usually came back with "wives".  It was all very sketchy.

Hate this happened to nique, or that he was made to feel like something happened.  Was probably along the lines of what @TheNorthCydeRises described.  When I know places do the "dress code" thing, I make sure not to give them my business.

This is an awful look for the city right now. This is why I am not the biggest fans of transplants moving into Atlanta with their racist backwards logic not understanding our culture. If you wanted to make Atlanta the next Milwaukee or Biloxi, go to Milwaukee or Biloxi. We don't play that racist bullshit in Atlanta. Get the f*** outta here!

I tell people this all the time. I moved here from suburban Chicago, northwest Indiana...steel country. Things are worse there, I can assure you.

If you zoom into the photo Nique shared, a white employee is opening the door for a black woman.  I'm guessing it was staffing or dress code related. Means either management didn't explain why he was turned away or Nique didn't accept the answer.

This establishment has a history of doing this too: "It allows for arbitrary decisions:" Buckhead restaurant catching heat over dress code | News | cbs46.com

dress codes are stupidly outdated, and i won't support restaurants that enforces them. i'll go eat my $130 tomahawk at marcel in a pair of shorts and t shirt

I can't like this enough. I 100% stand behind a restaurants free market ability to establish a dress code. and I 1000% agree a citizen's right to denigrate that decision. The best answer, open a competing restaurant across the street with an outdoor patio and street dancing competitions. You'll make more money and run them out of business.

Supes you might wanna check this out.  A girl I knew did an oral report on this topic in high school. It always stuck with me. Link to a doc about it.  http://newsreel.org/guides/struggles.htm.  People always question the things I say about the north south thing but its things like this that have always influenced my opinions.

And if you read the tweets, they told him there were no seats available...afterwards they told him that he wasn't dressed appropriately.  I don't need much more information than that. Not from Nique. Not because he's a sports legend, but because he rarely opens up publicly and when he does, it's always a positive message or it's something he's doing to help people (especially the people of Atlanta).

...and the official response from the restaurant is unbelievable. Just downright cold and unconcerned.

Marcel is excellent! Been there a few times.

Can confirm. Especially since the property manager fixed the outside balcony where nobody can fall over the railing. They're no Umi Sushi (or Tavern at Phipps, or OK Cafe, or Houston's, or...). Ford Fry and 'em will be able to smooth over that fiasco with a few select (read: on-the-house) cuts of melt-in-your-mouth meat.
