CAM REDDISH TO NY FOR KEVIN KNOX AND FIRST!?!

Honestly, taking an objective look at this deal (assuming that this is the only major move made at the deadline), it clearly gives more opportunity to Dre, Kevin, and Bogi to step up and produce more.

Too many cooks in the kitchen may have been a hinderance to some of our guys, and at least this move clears up more opportunity for guys on the team. Call it addition by subtraction (although I wish we could’ve at least gotten a top-10 protected pick).

Having digested this trade a little more (my initial reaction was WTF) - Remember this from last draft:

Quote

The Hawks have explored moving Cam Reddish for some time, dating back to the 2021 NBA Draft cycle. They almost moved him to Indiana for the #13 pick, but that fell through. Finally happened today, per

So, I'm asking - has Cam improved all the facets of his game enough to garner a better pick and also considering his upcoming contract demands?

Well for whatever reason, that trade fell through, nothing to be done about it now.  I'm asking a different question now.

My opinion is Cam marginally improved offensively (at least at hitting shots with his feet set, not at creating or passing) this year but took a MASSIVE nosedive defensively. He has been totally awful on defense all season

That doesn’t even make sense.  You guys are on tilt.  Why wouldn’t they take the best return?
This makes you upset, but doesn’t mean they got better offers that they turned down just cause.

I'm not saying it's the best trade we could have made. I'm also not saying it wasn't. There is Cam the player for a pick and Cam the player seeking an extension for a pick.  Two different valuations and which teams are interested and willing to offer knowing they have to pay him.

It's the same as Bron/Luka/Trae is all just an high end variance of the same bullshit. The wings stand a lot. Only wings and guards that get better from this shit are guys Korver, Klay, J.R. Smith, Snell. Guys who are either movement specialist who run around to get open and they are sharps, spot up specialists like J.R. Smith, and guards who are just scoring based with some movement who really don't need touches like that, like Mo Williams.

Anyone who needs touches? Nope.

Look at this shit:

Kyle left Bron ball and instantly started playing well. Part of the reason Utah got Clarkson for so cheap was he sucked in Bron Ball. Bron/Luka/Trae ball is trash. I love all three of these generational rare talents but their style of heliocentric offense is ASS! And I am someone who think's Bron is GOAT. But this offense is so limiting. Almost everyone around them has to be very good shooters or better. What makes matters worse, Trae defense is WOAT so you almost got to get him around stacked defensive players. But he's so small, you need some extra ball handlers but how many 3&D guys got handles, NONE! It's like trying to build a team in a small cage. It's limiting. Idk. This shit is hard.

All of them get more out of bigs than anything, especially Trae. All of them need shooters around for spacing. Man, I am not enjoying watching Trae right now more than any other Hawk. He's ruining shit. I've always said, boom or bust. He doesn't have a middle ground. He's not like Delon where he has a high center even if he has low ceilings.

You are dead right on this.  But I hope you can also see this is exactly why Cam had to go before we paid him.

As opposed to Bogi and Kevin? The defense issue is clearly a team thing.

I think it's fine that Hawks fans thought Cam was going to develop into a much better player than what a ~20th pick will be...  that still doesn't mean we were in a position to meet his extension requirements.  Draft well means you have cap issues down the road which is where we're at now.  The FO wants Hunter more than Cam and I personally agree with that.  Hopefully this pick will help us land a bigger fish.  A portion of the fan base was bound to be angry at anything we decided around this time period because of our looming cap situation.  Ressler even said a year ago this core group wouldn't be together long term because it wouldn't be possible.

Could be he overplayed his hand and this was all he was left with.

Could be there's some aspect of this we're unaware of that drove value down.

Bro if the offer sucks... we don't have to take it.
