Cap and Huerter are out in a deal upgrading Center. 
 

JC and 16 are out in a deal upgrading SG through the draft. 
 

Either Grant, Randle, or Isaac are options to replace JC. As is promoting internally OO or JJ.

So, amateur deduction here is, if this is legit, it's either...

 

Capela + Collins

 

or

 

Capela + Huerter + #16

 

Which one would I choose?

If "neither" is on the board, then that, and it's not that difficult a choice because, again, it's not an improvement at a position where there's enough dire need... there are other positions where a Gobert-level of player would be... in fact, every one of them except PG.

If you're going to hold a gun to my head, Collins is worth more to me than Huerter + #16.

 

 

 

The Deal from the Hawks perspective has always been Capela + Bogi + 16 for Gobert. Or Capela + Huerter + (unspecified pick) for Gobert.

The Deal from the Utah perspective has been Capela + Hunter + filler for Gobert.  I have no idea where he got Collins name from.

 

Conversations involving Collins have been for Collins + unspecified for other PF + unspecified. or Collins + unspecified for SG.

 

So much BS out there but those are the only conversations surrounding Capela and Utah and the only conversations surrounding JC and anyone.  FYI, the Collins for SG could be a draft pick but I'm not sure how that makes us better now.

Not saying I know anything  but I know Brooklyn would love to pair KD with Capela. KD might be the most natural fit opposite Capela in the league. This is a poorly kept secret around the league.

Making use of what you already have:  

Bogie will be back, I believe.  We all hope and trust that the surgery was a total success.  What about the back-up two guard?  Who can we get to play here?

When I consider the different things that most of you say that is needed - Ability to handle the ball - dribble without hitting his own knee - ability to pass well - shoot and hit the three ball - see the floor and know what to do and when to do it - play decent defense.  

Don't laugh for my asking - Could Jalen Johnson?  I know.  He's a four, not a two.  Why?  I know there are many reasons why not.  He's not too slow.  He's not too old to learn.  Maybe we just use what we already have and not worry too much about our obvious problem.  Sometimes it may not be such a big one after all.

I believe it if they have plans to build the right team around Gobert and Trae.  I love the toughness/defensive implications, but they will still deny/trap/box Trae and someone else will be forced to make a play.  Without additional moves, we're exactly where we are now with Capela...but bigger and maybe healthier. 

That said, I'm not against adding Gobert as much as I am not excited about it.  Not without following it up with the addition of a 2nd legitimate playmaker/shooter(s)/scorer on the wing.

We've just dumped JC's $23 million, not gonna get a guy looking for a larger payday in Grant, one who is making more in Randle and one that can't get and stay on the floor in Isaac (though I do admit, his Exhibit 3 contract details are intriguing)
