Moderators AHF Posted June 9, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted June 9, 2006 Maryland judge rules terms of contract were breached By TIM TUCKER The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 06/09/06 Estranged part-owner Steve Belkin is entitled to buy out his partners and take over the Hawks and Thrashers, according to a Maryland court ruling issued late this afternoon. Montgomery County (Md.) Circuit Court Judge Eric Johnson found that the teams' seven other owners breached the terms of an agreement to buy out Belkin and thus triggered his right to buy them out at cost instead. The judge also said in the ruling that his finding "will render moot all remaining claims" in the lawsuit, and he dismissed all other counts in the case. * * * * * My worst fears are realized. Gray Mule
Weird! What else can I say ??? Appeals ??? Yep ... But, meanwhile, Guess what. Hawks and Thrashers now have ONE OWNER who, we believe is unliked by ANY one in either orginization, the NBA commisioner or any of the fans of either team, as far as I know. Guess the teams will be moved out of Atlanta now, the assets here sold and everyone left high and dry. New coaches, managers, the work, in a new location, if possible. Oh well, so much for our Atlanta teams. Braves are being sold {And loosing every night} but we still have the Falcons.

I don't know that he can move the teams or whether his hands are tied due to them being handcuffed to Phillips arena. What a dumb ass contract. Belkin outsmarted the Atlanta Spirit group on every step of this one.

DrReality
Will you dish the pic now. He's one sorry S.O.B. He will not be allowed to move the team without Stern and the other owners approval, which will not happen without a fight. From what I have heard he is not respected amongst the other owners.
