Will Evans Keep Starting Over Marvin?

Why wouldn't Woody keep Evans at the Starting SF position? 22 pts and 9 boards in his 1st start. You know thats better than Marvin would have done. Marvin just hasn't put up numbers deserving of a starter so far. Wont Woody have to start him if he keeps playing so well? Bring Marvin off the bench. Maybe it will light a spark in him?

Well I would.

Woody's first responsibility is to put out the best team that he has available (roster-wise) to win games.

I didn't watch the game til the middle of the second quarter... what happened? Marvin got benched?

He didn't play at all because he had some stomach problems.

And no, as soon as Marvin is healthy to go, he will be starting in his usual SF position over Evans.

Mo did play well. His stats were a little bloated with the extended garbage time however he started the game off hot.

Marvin is easily the better player and he is not undersized like Mo at the SF position. We are playing well so why mess with that. Marvin is our starter and it is nice to know that Mo is playing well right now and feel comfortable with him coming in off the bench.

Its funny, a few weeks ago people were saying how Mo shouldn't even be in the league let alone getting pt. A few good games certainly changed that.

It just shows that we have a strong bench this year and that has been a major reason for our success.

:thumbsdownsmileyanim:

Players usually don't lose their starting position just because they had a stomach virus.

MW will be back in his starting position come gametime. Evans was great. No reason

to believe he will be anything but great from the bench. Don't get hung up on who starts.

Are you suggesting that Hawksquawkers form arguments based on a small sample of games? Could they really be that fickle?

Yep.

(The Hawks will need contributions from Marvin and Evans before this is all said and done).

Mo is shooting over 50% from the field, 40% from three, and 90% from the free throw line on the season.

I don't necessarily think he should start, but that is damn impressive, even if it has come in limited time.

Also, something interesting. Marvin is third to last in PER on the team. I'm talking about the entire roster. The only people with worse PER's are Collins and Hunter.

Marvin's PER this year is 13.3 and Evan's PER is 15.9 (this is before today's game via basketballreference.com)

What is also interesting is that a 13.3 PER basically ranks last for our rotation players... though if you look at every single team in the NBA a PER of 13.3 would rank probably in the top 6.

If our bench continues to play well, we very well could be looking at the league's deepest team this year.

He should. If Marvin can score like the people here claim it would give him a chance to be a main scorer off the bench.

Mo was our leading scorer coming out of the first quarter when the game was close... What are you talking about?

He said he started the game off hot, but I guess you chose to just skip over the second half of the very sentence that you quoted. Way to look for any opening to pump Mo up, since that obviously helps out your fire-breathing on Marvin.
