This isn't a stable team.

Too many question marks but too many things that can go good. Dwight and Dennis make a massive difference. Both can preform like last year and 38 wins is extremely likely or both can be much better and 62 wins is possible. The pre-season tells me this could be a top 3 team in the NBA. Reality is still saying this is a 38 win team. So much hedges on Dennis and Dwight.

If Dwight can perform at his pre-season level, it tells me that 20-15 is possible for Dwight and 15 and 8 is possible with good efficiency for Dennis.  This complete crushes my 13 and 10 expectations with mid efficiency for Dwight and Dennis to improve on volume alone in overall stats but everything remains the same. 20-15 is a top 5-10 NBA impact and Dennis with good efficiency and 15 and 8 is a top 3 East PG and top 5-6 NBA PG. This will make a massive difference. On top of that, the depth is impressive from the pre-season.

Now the issue I had coming into this year was a much weaker bench. A much weaker starting five with poor chemistry.

The chemistry is still a work in progress but the bench is much better than  I expected and so is the starting five but we haven't seen this team in the regular season. Their offense has been herky jerky so far.

This team is all over the place.

Damn, looking good Supes.

Very polite response post there Spud but for the the previous post, fishing for a compliment is one thing and pretty sad at that but patting yourself on the back in public is truly another. Attention deficit issue possibly, but in sports that for some reason is ok so what can anyone do. Speaking in third person is more than acceptable in marketing but guess what, its despised in any other venue anywhere including the real world.

No, Please anybody/everyone could have done the what if scenario - if this happens then 38, if that happens then 62 - that's exactly what you did so if either happens you look like a genius.

That's why your prediction isn't listed in the chart because it isn't a prediction - its hedging your bets with a 24 game swing in either direction.

That is what this team was this year. Too many variables but I did state, reality says this is a 38 win team.

Well, the Hawks stabilized themselves and are now looking like a 44 win team.

Update:

Current season pace, according to overall winning percentage:  48

Hawks are 16 - 6 since the 7 game losing streak ( .727 winning percentage ) . .  38 games left in the season.   If we keep winning at that clip, Hawks are on pace to win 53 or 54 games.

Man, if Hardaway can really be that wing scorer we've so desperately needed then we could see a good season for the Hawks.   We've been winning despite our starting wings often scoring in single digits COMBINED.   That's not easy.

It really is amazing.  Just scanning through the game log, I counted 3 games in which the wings scored less than 10 points, and the Hawks still won.  Extend that number to 16 points, and that number jumps to about 7 games won.  And a few of those wins, even Hardaway Jr didn't ball out.

Howard, Millsap, and Dennis have saved this team far more than we realize.  Then when you add the games in which Hardaway Jr have saved us, they represent our offensive core of the team.  Baze and Thabo are almost like defensive specialists playing at the same time, since you can't depend on their offense.

In Baze's defense  ( as JayBird pointed out last week ), he has been playing better recently.  Still BAD, but not HORIFFIC.

Last 20 games:

9.9 ppg

2.9 rebs

2.6 asst

41% FG

34% 3FG

63% FT . . . ( the 81% he shot from the line last season, looks to be an anomaly.  He was a 60% FT shooter in his first 3 years in the NBA.  This year, he's right around 70%.  )

You see...the thing about gifs is it just another form of comedy. When you see that one momma cat gif it is because Jaybird knows when to selectively use it. She could it far more often than she does but she knows when to hold it for just the right comedic value.

Look at it like "That's what she said". Sure you could use that after almost every sentence spoken in the world BUT if you time it juuuuuuust right then it comes across as hilarious. If you use it all the time, well, you are just Michael Scott from The Office who turns everything into a "that's what she said" marathon.

Moderation in all things, kimosabe.

Alas, I'm sure you noticed, it won't ultimately matter that your crystal ball yielded the most accurate Tiago prognostication.... i.e., since we first have to accomplish winning 47 and then...  finish in 3rd place.

But I'm rootin for ya. :)
