ATL.pngAtlanta Hawks | Grade: D-plus

Offseason additions: John Collins (draft), Tyler Dorsey (draft), Dewayne Dedmon (free agency), Marco Belinelli (trade), Miles Plumlee (trade), Diamond Stone (trade)

Offseason losses: Paul Millsap (free agency), Dwight Howard (trade), Tim Hardaway Jr. (free agency), Thabo Sefolosha (free agency), Ryan Kelly (trade), Mike Dunleavy (waived)

Recap: New GM Travis Schenk cleaned house, taking a power washer to the books. Miles Plumlee is their third-highest-paid player. They lost a lot of talent. They still don't have a reliable young core and Dennis Schröder is their best player. The tank is on. -- Matt Moore

SportsLine 2017-18 forecast: 33.2 wins (No. 11 East seed; 10.3 pct. chance at playoffs)

Yep...if Collins is given the opportunity to show put and others improve and develop chemistry.

And the other contenders for the 8th seed implode.  There isn't a clear 8th seed right now, IMO.  7 that should be in the playoffs and then somebody who is going to end up there that should probably be in the lottery.

It was sarcastic in nature. As of today we have less than a 10% chance IMHO.

I have no idea how the rest of the East will shake out but most outlets are predicting 35 wins for us.  Sounds accurate.  In Steph's first two seasons before injury the Warriors averaged 31 wins.  Just keep piling them great picks on.  Maybe a mandate from the front office comes down to Bud when we reach 30 wins.  Magette gonna be starting.

Most outlets don't even know that Sap is gone..

23 wins.  Final answer.

If this roster wins 35 games, then Tony Ressler should build a statue of Mike Budenholzer to place in front of the newly renovated Philips Arena, and there is no question that he is the best coach in the NBA if that happens.

Lol!

And if we win 30-35 games next season...and get the #8 pick to go with 2 late 1st rounders...

with Mike Budenholzer reasserting himself as a Top 10 coach...

and the young core of Schröder, Bembry, Prince, and Collins makes strides...

and we have tons of cap room in 2018 and 2019, while few other teams have any...

then will the point of the 2017 off-season become more clear?

That's actually my prediction as well

35 wins . . . get in as 8th seed . . . the kids show game, with Dennis becoming a legit borderline All-Star

As of earlier today you didn't know that Lowry had resigned with the Raptors.

Even more reason this prediction is correct...

Point out the 35 teams you think we can beat?

Schröder's real breakout moment as a guard comes this year. It might be ugly at times but by the end he will have shown real flashes for the future.

Schröder will be a Ball dominant PG who doesn't get others involved well.   Defensively.... Ugh.   The real question is will he get along with Coach Bud?

And your boy Dwight will continue to fight lead guards up in Charlotte while you continue to say "But but, if Dwight had Rondo, he'd still be awesoommmmeeeeee!"

Why are we still talking about Dwight?

I'm worried the East is so putrid that even a bad Hawks team might sneak in as the 8th seed. We can't do that. If you are rebuilding on a scorched earth roster like this one we can't afford to get into the playoffs. Not yet.
