You can get caught up on negatives if you just look at stats or listen to commentators, but if you watch him play, in college or SL, you see that he's a special kind of talent. We don't have to knock down Dennis or anyone to build up Trae. He has elite skills already at 19. The players know it, the fans know it. You can focus on turnovers all day long but turnovers, bad shot selection, defensive effort are things that a 19 year old can improve on. Elite court vision, ability to shake defenders easily, ability to put pass in a variety of ways, and a pretty decent shot are all things you don't want to try to teach somebody in the pros. If he can't easily shake them, it will make it harder for him to get the good passing angles but will much more dramatically impact his shooting %s. I am optimistic that his passing vision is good enough to still be successful with closer marking but I don't share the same confidence in his shot if he has trouble shaking the bigger, more athletic and more sound defenders he will see in the NBA this year than he saw in college or SL. 4 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That's true but he'll also have better picks, better plays, better targets too. And they were doubling him in SL which was a little shocking for an unproven player who's shooting 20%. Prince and Collins should be the beneficiaries of a lot of easy layups if they want to double Trae hard. If not, I'm confident he can shake most guys. I totally agree that it will be a whole different world from SL in ways that are benefits to Trae and in ways that are challenges to him. SL is an exhibition that isn't worth much. For reference Schröder last year averaged 19 points on 17 shots. Per 36 minutes Trae has been putting up 26.6 PPG and 9.4 APG in his last three games. So yea.
