You can play with it but do the Hawks really need to risk Hunter for this type of injury

Gray Mule
Can the Hawks really be dealt a decent hand? They get one starter back from injury in the same game that they lose one of their starters due to injury. 1

You don’t know which Bembry is coming out? Is it the good, the bad or Pierre? Ps I’m not calling him ugly, it just landed that way. His game can be quite ugly at times but here’s hoping the good comes out!

Premium Member JayBirdHawk Posted December 31, 2019 Premium Member Report Share Posted December 31, 2019 Didn't think a new thread was needed! Quote "We don't have a quote-unquote natural backup point guard on our roster," Pierce said. "Trae is our point guard, and then we've done it by committee. That's a position that we talked about last year with Kevin: getting him the ball a little more and allowing him to play that backup point spot." Time to give Goodwin the chance! He may never score 21 again this season but I liked what I saw of him running the offense, setting up guys and playing defense at the PG spot. Quote ....when Young is not on the court, the Hawks have scored much better with Huerter in the mix: the offense has been +12.8 points per 100 possessions better with Kevin than without him

GameTime
Very impressed with Huerter since the LP debacle. I think he can a Mike Miller-like player for us playing off Trae if he stays this aggressive. We definitely need his shooting.
Premium Member Popular Post JayBirdHawk Posted January 8, 2020 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted January 8, 2020 Quote Since John Collins’ return from suspension on Dec. 23, Huerter has shot 47 percent from 3-point range in his past seven games and has been the guy the Hawks expected him to be this season. “Without a doubt. Without a doubt,” head coach Lloyd Pierce said. “We know the shooting. I think he’s going to end up at 40 percent (from 3) by the time the year ends. I think he’s going to be right in that range of where he should have been. We watched film (of the Denver game) and saw that they were taking a body off of Trae, so we started going into dribble handoffs with Kevin, and he’s now coming off the dribble. That’s a way of getting the ball into his hands and not just being a spot-up shooter. That’s what I want to avoid. I don’t want Kevin to just be a spot-up shooter because I think that takes away a ton from his game.” Huerter admits that it can be hard sometimes to stay engaged in the game with how ball-dominant Young is. Young is fourth in the league in usage rate, but that’s how the best teams and players excel. The top teams’ players know their role and how to thrive in it. With how the Hawks’ offense is engineered, Young is going to have the ball in his hands, and it’s up to everyone else to figure out how to fit in with him. But Huerter is the kind of player who the Hawks want to play alongside Young in the backcourt — someone who can space the floor, make shots when Young gets off the ball and be a secondary playmaker. Quote The Hawks have changed their primary offensive action a few times this year so Huerter’s role has changed. They started the season running lots of high ball screens and then changed to getting him the ball down low off of pin-downs, and now they are using lots of dribble handoffs so Huerter can come down and get the ball on his right hand. The Hawks have been running more plays for Huerter lately, and it has resulted in the best stretch of the season for him so far. 4
