Is the development of OO making Clint expendable?

Just thinking out loud here, but does what we've seen out of OO this post season make it more likely that Clint gets traded? If so, could that come this year? Seems like a reasonable move to swap some salary around but not sure if OO is ready to be the starting 5. 

Thoughts?

Trading Clint would be a REALLY bad move, he's probably our best value contract right now outside of rookie deals.  It's more likely that we don't re-sign him in 2023 because we'll have to pay OO the following year, assuming OO continues to progress into a solid starter.

Expendable? NO, not yet. 

Clint has 2 years left on his contract - next season will be big for both. 

Do we see a changing of the guard where they are playing close to equal minutes? If OO progresses as much as he has throughout this season next, I could see a situation where Clint is moved with 1 season left on his contract or we just let his contract runs out OR there is also a possibility that we extend him.in his last year and look to trade him later.  

It all depends on OO's growth.

clint has the perfect contract length, we get him for 2 more years and OO can come along at a good pace. It really took CC about 3 years to become the full time starter

I think your view might be different if he had been matched up with Embiid more and not primarily against the much more limited Dwight Howard last series.  OO's development is great but wayyyyyy too early to talk about moving on from a 26 year old on a great contract who has been a key player for us this year.  

Give OO room to grow and let us see if his limited size ends up being a problem in certain matches, etc.  You can't have too much quality depth.

All good points. To be clear, I'm not so much advocating for it as much as asking about the timing for such a move. I've been impressed with OO so far, even in his limited minutes vs Embiid.

We still need Capela.  Reasonable contract.  Remember what we had before he started playing for us.  Right now the Hawks are well covered with OO as #2 center and Nathan Knight as #3.

When #2 and #3 centers mature some, then we consider this move but we're not there - - not yet.

Good lord. You don’t even talk about moving a good defender who won the rebounding title and can set solid screen/roll game because a rookie was kind of solid in one series. 
 

not to mention he is 26 and on a GREAT contract.. … sheesh.

Not yet, but Okongwu likely surpasses Capela before Capela's contract is up.

As has been said, it's too early for that.  However, options for covering the 4/5 long term was likely Schlenk's thought process and it wouldn't surprise me to see changes in the next 3-4 years depending upon OO's growth.

Maybe we don't re-sign Clint when his contract expires, but we aren't trading him.

Pretty easy no for me. Clint came in and anchored the paint and we would not have made the playoffs without him. He was punished by the best center in the East and don't think any other center in the East would have matched evenly against Embiid. Plus all those offensive fouls not called didn't help out either. Feel we need CC for a good while.

The ideal scenario is that by the time Cap's contract is up OO is ready to step in an be the full time starter. Absolutely unnecessary to move on from Clint at the moment when he looks fully healthy and is the keystone to everything we do defensively.
