The Play-In

WHEW!  We made it to the play-in.  Now, don't just relax because we're in.  On the other hand, don't get so uptight that you can't throw the ball in the ocean from a rowboat, out of sight of land.

All four teams in this play-in are going to take these next games very serious.  Nothing will be easy.  Check those season records.  These team are really, really close to being equal.  Either play your best games now or you quickly see your season come to an end.

Yikes, man.  Why?

Uh because basketball.  Want our chance at highest possible seed since we are going to need it since we are now at the whims of free agency the draft build is what it is, not unsuccessful, but we have some flaws we have to address.  We need as much leverage as we can get for that.

Oh, and for some unintentional comedy, check out RgM thread on the play-in.  There's a whiny Cavs fan complainin' about how his team has to play and gots soooo many injuries.

Well alls I got to say is ...

giphy.webp?cid=ecf05e4749rvdso2kudl56d4r

..... has that guy seen how many games we played with non-NBA players?  Has that guy not seen how many man-hours we lost to injury?  Has that guy not seen Johnny Collins' finger?

Wanna know what kg thinks about the Cavs' injuries ...

Do like they told us when we was trottin out a literal Cat Barber as our starting 1 a couple games.  Just grit yer teeth and hold on 'til it's done, sir.  Hope Moses Brown puts up nimbers like Jarrett Allen.  Squint reallllll hard until 'Moses' looks like 'Mobley' are you peer through your tear-filled lids.

But miss me with the whining.  At least you still got your all-star(sic).  And, truth be told, Moses' nimbers are pretty comparable to Mobley's so get over yourself.

JaxonXXX is a nut. He said we are insufferable fans. Is he a Cavs fan or Mavs? :indifferent:

There's literally one team in the east that should scare the Hawks (MIL).  Being in the lottery doesn't ensure we'll land a difference maker (via trade of the pick or selection), so what would be the point?

These non-top 5 lotto picks don't carry as much value as people seem to think.  Every draft some teams goes in with 2+ 1sts and ends up just taking random guys because they can't package them to move up.  And can't package them for a difference maker.  Chasing these picks is a fool's errand imho (not calling you a 'fool', just using that phrase to illustrate my point).

Yes, it works out sometimes.  But far more often than not, it just ends up forcing a team to keep chasing more picks.

Definitely Cavs.  And he's not the only one calling us insufferable.  Is that the word of the day or something?  They're all responding to ol' soth, btw, which is hilarious considering he's obviously trolling them all but they keep falling for it.

Yup. If they reshuffled they seeds we are a top 4 east team going in right now. At least based on our recent play on the floor.

Ps Speaking of the Bucks, did you all see Holiday check in for 8 seconds and get a 300k bonus for getting in the game (based on his contract). :sarcastic:

300k in 7 seconds….. wow.

Cavs have been injury-depleted, no question...

But...

They went into the season expecting one of Stevens or Wade to be part of their rotation as I understood it, and those are the two who received most of the starting assignments as a consequence of their problems in the frontcourt. And yes, they've had a very few games with Tacko Fall, Ed Davis, and most recently Moses Brown... all considered end of the bench guys... getting starts.

Then, of course, losing Rubio early-on hurt. Still, they they've had to start ex-Hawks Goodwin or Rondo or Hawks nostalgic summer league phenom Pangos only just a handful of times.

So, I appreciate the whining, but it's definitely not so drastic in contrast to our 22 game recession.

What did their record look like when they started a player who'd not been expected to have a role at the start of the season?

Let's give them the fullest benefit of a doubt, and count Stevens and Wade as guys who were not anticipated to be in the rotation (though, again, that's an arguable point).

CLE record when starting players who hadn't been anticipated at season's start to have any real role?

24-19

CLE record when starting players that are legitimate NBA rotation-level by anyone's measure???

20-19

Yes. They actually were better.

So, yeah, @kg01... we can empathize, but there's no debate to be had as to which team's record was more affected by health-related roster depletion.

Takes me a whole damn month to make that much.

Would have been sucky for them to hold him out though.
