With the #15 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, the Hawks select.....

Also, I'm not saying Sheppard is the pick.  I think he is one to keep an eye on, particularly since he's getting workouts with teams who pick in the middle portion of the first round (Pelicans at 14, Hawks at 15, Jazz at 19).  I still think someone will unexpectedly fall to the Hawks pick and will end up being the pick.

How's Sheppard compare to AJ? (sorry if i missed it)

As much as everyone may drool over his offensive potential, I think it's that he stood his own defensively in combine competition (video posted in this thread) that has raised eyebrows. Figure that many figured his first-team all-conference defensive team plaque was questionable b/c of competition level.

Fwiw, my novice assessment is AJ's a tier, maybe two, above Sheppard offensively, but Sheppard's gotten some people curious if he might be a genuine two-way player right out of the gate.

I know we hear rumors every draft, but this draft more than any since 2019, I'm persuaded there's some serious, strong inclination to trade out in the interest of upgrading at some slot in the rotation. Back then, it was a product of having too many picks (5 total) going into the draft. This time, it's the product of believing we're this-close.

Think it will mainly come down to whether there are partners who want to make a deal.

And it's entirely likely, too, that we won't know anything until during the draft, since potential partners are going to be wanting to see who is still sitting there at #15.

Different styles of player.  Sheppard has the ability to be a secondary ball handler on offense.

I agree in one sense... there's never been anyone to my knowledge who suggested Junior should be given that kind of role... but then again, arguably his next most often-cited strength (beyond his 3 point shooting) has been his handles.

What are you talking about?   JJ was mocked in the late teens by most sites.  I saw one that had him as high as 13, but that was the anomaly a most had him mocked in the high teens.

AJ fell because of injury concerns.  None of the players you are hoping will fall have injury concerns.

You;re talking about guys who will all be gone by pick #12 in a weak draft that has a ton of drop off after the top 10-12.

You are crazy if you think JJ was mocked at #20 or late teens by most sites.

I'm only willing to look so much into this but I am positive there were some mocks that had him going outside of the lottery but many, many had him in the lottery and none had him still on the board at #20.

Here is the best link...from NBA which listed all the FINAL lottery mocks the day before the draft.  Something like 13 mocks listed...only 1 had JJ in the lottery and it was #13.  doesn't exactly jive with the links you posted does it?

LOL you listed a mock from year before the draft. None of your links are as current as the ones I just posted.

So before you start calling people crazy maybe take a look in that mirror....

Gradey d*ck isn’t likely to be considered by Dallas, team and league sources tell The Athletic, all of whom were granted anonymity since they were not authorized to speak publicly about prospects. The team’s new front office is focused on athleticism and physicality much more than the old guard, which might have favored a skilled shooter but an unremarkable athlete like d*ck.

11-14 are Orlando, OKC (rumored promise to Bilal), Toronto, and New Orleans.

It's true that one really has to watch him/herself where it concerns reflecting on the 2021 draft, since it was delayed until November.

I humbly speak from experience.

Posting a total of three links that were late teen or later doesnt even match the number I posted in the lottery.  Mocks go on for months and he was absolutely not mocked consistently in the late teens.

Remarkably the last link you said was the most important lists him as the #15 or #16 prospect which is not late teens.  That is clearly on the cusp of the lottery in the mid teens.

Why do you think so much of the post draft coverage focused on the Hawks getting lucky that he was still on the board?

Note:  I didn’t claim that the vast majority of mocks had him in the lottery.  I did note that there were a lot (probably dozens if you count the multiple iterations) that did.  You claimed he was predominantly in the late lottery which you haven’t backed up.  Your consensus link expressly debunks that and I bet the farther back you go with those consensus summaries the higher he is which would mean his range in those consensus summaries would be between lottery (earlier on) and the first pick or two after the lottery (which is what you posted) and never in the late teens or 20’s for his consensus average.

Looking at the two main draft boards (ESPN and The Athletic), the top 9 seem to be a consensus. There is a lot of variation in 10-25 or so.  The Athletic had Cason Wallace 10 and Gradey D!ck 12.  ESPN had D!ck 10 and Wallace 14.  ESPN has Lively 12 while the Athletic has him 14.  ESPN has Jalen Hood Schifino 11 while the Athletic has him 16.

ESPN has Nick Smith 13, Jordan Hawkins 15, and Keyonte George 16.  The Athletic has these three at 17, 18 and 19.

what are you talking about??   you posted a bunch of out of date mocks that had him as high as #6.  I posted mocks that were much closer to the actual draft and none of them had him as high as the 10 or so out of date links you posted.  The consensus link I posted from the day before the draft clearly show that no one had him as a lottery pick once it was time to actually draft which debunks all of your links since every one of them had him in teh lottery.
