ShooterSays
Are we thinking NYK or BKN? Seems like for the Knicks, DJM would have the same issue with Brunson he has here. BKN has better assets. Could we swing Thomas and/or Claxton?

Soth, can you blink twice for us is this is the backbone of the deal being discussed now? I can't say more. I've been asked to delete my initial post about this. I will, however, say that I have been told the team's internal analytics believe JJ is an All Star level talent trajectory. I also have to comment in general that a certain WC team wanted us to make a splashy trade in the offseason with DJM. We do not want to wait that long. They want to clear the decks, get young players and picks now. Tony, Nick, FO and Quin had a big meeting not that long ago about this year's team and the future. Quin told them he liked the talent but there were too many pieces that just didn't fit what he wants to do especially on defense. Quin would rather have a good defense than a good offense if he had to pick. Look back at the "Hawks DNA" interviews with Landry and Korver. Any incoming players through trade, draft and FA will have to tick those boxes. The FO wants to use the TPE from JC as part of a deal either this season or the offseason to either move up in the 2024 draft or get a pick later one. Idea is some teams could use it to pick up a player they otherwise can't. We ourselves might use it. The idea that we're ignoring it is just not true. I personally believe one trade will lead to others both before the deadline and the offseason. I think this roster will look very different at the start of next season. I expect Trae, JJ, OO and Kobe to still be here with the first two names the only ones guaranteed to be here. The team is looking for defense and shooting both in trades, the draft and FA. Reed Sheppard from kentucky is an early favorite in the scouting circles. Quin wants a real backup PG and the team sees him as a smaller Caruso type player. 3

Tony regrets firing Travis but he will never say so in public. Nick has a large voice in this team. Tony is the one calling the shot to basically blow up the roster and try and fix the team to be a better fit for Quin's coaching style. 4

I usually try to steer clear of drama, but… are you telling me that we are about to move DJ, when just this last year, we re-structured our entire front office on the fly due to Schlenks disapproval of us pursuing DJ in the first place? So anyone who was pro Schlenk dipped, Nate’s days were numbered, and we decided to publicly fully commit to this new direction under LF. And after a year. After letting all this dysfunction happen on his watch last season, Tony is finally regretting letting the young guys push out Schlenk, and we are moving DJ which is basically what started the clock on all this drama in the first place? And the cherry on top, the Spurs will have won the gamble by letting DJ leave for those assets because we are looking more and more lottery bound by the season. 6

Tony let Nicky and his Super Friends take charge...and now here we are. Feels like they're treating the Hawks as a play thing.

Travis knew he was right, and he had no desire to stick around and watch this team dissolve in to exactly what we are seeing on the court right now. He had a plan, but 2 or 3 people within this organization had their own plan. And the only people who suffered are the fans who have watched us piss away 2 seasons and key assets for nothing. Just to end up back at square but now worse than we were when this whole this started. Quinn was the silver lining from the drama last season and he is proving more and more that even he isn’t a savior. Resser has some splaining to do my friend.

Not saying you haven’t heard this is close or that the Hawks hope to close on a deal ASAP or whatever - just that I’m skeptical whether something happens this early. If we do, hope we knock it out. This is why I think this won’t be a “big trade.” Trading DJM would be big for us, but for it to be a big trade some other big piece would need to be heading our way. I’m willing to bet most fans here will be disappointed with the return.

ShooterSays
Don’t get me started on Travis…. Travis traded away Luka and bought way too high on Hunter. His best picks we thought at the time, Huerter and Collins, don’t look so great now. Cam never turned into anything either. We also could have had Hali, but went with OO. I don’t care if Hali didn’t want to come here. Deal with it, rookie. And if he did his job scouting Luka, you think Ressler is going to veto that if your GM tells you he’s generational? That’s his scouting failure. The DJM trade was the result of his failures to put another star around Trae. I’m glad he’s gone. Not that I trust Landry anymore…but I do trust Quin.
