Moderators PSSSHHHRRR87 Posted February 6, 2015 Moderators Report Share Posted February 6, 2015 The Hawks are interested in acquiring free-agent shooting guard Ray Allen , according to a report from ESPN's Ryen Russillo. However, Russillo reports that the Cavaliers are still the favorite to sign Allen. If Allen chose Cleveland, he would reunite with LeBron James, who he was a teammate with in Miami. In Atlanta, he'd add yet another three-point scoring threat to a team that's shooting 38.8 percent from behind the arc. Allen holds a career scoring average of 18.9 points per game, while shooting 40 percent from three. http://fantasynews.cbssports.com/fantasybasketball/update/25051281/report-hawks-interested-in-signing-ray-allen Not sure how reliable Ryen Russilo is tho. Moderators PSSSHHHRRR87 Posted February 6, 2015 Author Moderators Report Share Posted February 6, 2015 Another report said that Ray doesn't plan on making a decision until after the All-Star break. Not sure if I want him this late in the season. He'd only have half of February, March, and April to learn Bud's system before the playoffs. But Allen is a smart guy, so we'll see. Admin Popular Post capstone21 Posted February 6, 2015 Admin Popular Post Report Share Posted February 6, 2015 I think his experience would be invaluable ... Especially in the playoffs ... bumpyphish1
I feel like going to Cleveland would be a "safer" place for Allen to go, so he would lean Cleveland. I'm also not sure Ferry and Co would want to give up what it would cost to get him. What's his contract like? We are deep enough...don't see the need. DrReality
He plays ball movement that fits with Bud. Contract is one thing but this may be once in a life time opportunity.
Popular Post RandomFan
I feel like going to Cleveland would be a "safer" place for Allen to go, so he would lean Cleveland. I'm also not sure Ferry and Co would want to give up what it would cost to get him. What's his contract like? We are deep enough...don't see the need. Yes going to CLE is his most likely destination. I highly doubt he would command over something like a $5m contract, and probably less than that. So with our capspace and moving someone like Jenkins we should be able to afford him if it comes to that. With the Thabo injury, I'm not so sure we are deep enough. As I said a few days ago, I'm all for giving some more minutes to guys like Baze and Jenkins to let Base develop more and see what we've got in Jenkins. But if Bud isn't sold on Jenkins, that would be the reason to make a move like this. And another really big reason is that Ray would give us someone to really sub in for Korver that fills some of the same role that Kyle does. When Korver is on the floor our offensive rating is something like 15 points higher per possession than it is when he is on the bench. The shooting and spacing threat he provides is huge for everything else we try to do on offense. We don't currently have anyone that can give us a similar threat coming off the bench: Ray would give us that because he can still knock down those 3's and for 15-20 minutes a night, he should be able to do a lot of what Kyle does for us even at his advanced age. It would also help us ease up on Korver's minutes some. He's currently over 33 MPG, and at his age I'd be much happier if we could cut that down to the 29-30 range and keep him fresher until the playoffs. If Thabo wasn't injured I'm not sure we would be looking to make this move. But he is injured, and this entirely depends on Bud not believing in Jenkins; if that is the case, then yeah, picking up Allen would be a smart move. He would also be the only player on our roster with some NBA Finals experience. Don't underestimate that. frosgrim
Excellent points abut Ray essentially taking Kyle's role. I'd been focused more on a wing defender, but this team seems to get in more trouble when the second unit can't keep up the scoring pace. Ray, in theory, could fix that. Of course they would then cut Jenkins- who probably then signs with the Cavs.

Plainview1981
The only thing is that I don't see where Cleveland has a spot for Allen... The have JR Smith and Shumpert that can shoot 3's. I'm not seeing where Allen would fit.
benhillboy
Ray would do nothing for us defensively. I know he stays in optimum shape, but I also doubt if a 39 year old with his mileage can run with one of the best conditioned teams in the NBA. He could be stashed away for the postseason like Elton. I trust the brass would make the proper decision after seeing him work out.
Gray Mule
Must be nice to feel that you are the one player that could win or lose the championship for a top team and you're not even playing. Hawks have one of the finest pure shooters in the NBA and he can't be found on the floor. Don't know why Bud refuses to try to further develop him. Replace JJ with Ray Allen. Watch JJ become a Cav and star with The King! Right now, the two most feared teams in the east are Cleveland and Atlanta. Either one is capable of winning it all. Cleveland buried the Clippers last night and made them look sick. Tonight, Golden State comes to visit. Should be a great game! GO ATL !
curtmcgirt
It would be a huge hit in defense, but I can imagine a rotation with Teacgue/Schröder, Korver, Allen, Milsap and Horford. You can't double anyone. Space for days. you could even sub DeMarre for Korver and still keep the spacing.
Premium Member Sothron Posted February 6, 2015 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 6, 2015 Thabo's injury opens up minutes for someone. Allen isn't my first choice but if the Hawks got him I would not complain. But I think he's going to Cle to play with his buddy Lebron.

Moderators Popular Post macdaddy Posted February 6, 2015 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted February 6, 2015 Think about trying to keep track of Korver only to have him go to the bench and Ray Allen comes out. I think we need to start thinking differently than we are used to around here. This is our championship season and we need to go all in. No way in hell I"m passing up Ray Allen in favor of the shaky potential of Jenkins. We don't know if we'll be a contender next year or not. We need to do everything we can to make it happen now and I can't think of a better addition that could fit what we are doing without disrupting this amazing run.
Moderators AHF Posted February 6, 2015 Moderators Report Share Posted February 6, 2015 I am in the crowd that would like to see this happen for the cost of Jenkins. The fact that Ferry didn't reup Jenkins and Bud doesn't trust him to play tells me that we aren't giving up much. I'd definitely risk that for an aging Allen.
