benhillboy
Where does this series win rank in your Hawks History? This one is pretty damn high up there as I mostly panicked during the 60 win team’s first two series, then felt pity. Larry Drew made a miraculous one-season turnaround as an underdog but it still wasn’t as dominant and wildly entertaining like this one. I figured the Hawks would win this one fairly comfortably but damn the balance on both ends was just awesome. We haven’t had a National coming-out party of a superstar in the playoffs since Nique. Can’t say I remember that one vividly. Edited June 3, 2021 by benhillboy
Premium Member Popular Post JayBirdHawk Posted June 3, 2021 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted June 3, 2021 High. Strange year with no fans. A very young team All the injuries Locker room dust up with Trae and Collins A fired coach. A new interim coach Battling for home court until the end. Molly wopping the Knicks - priceless.

Popular Post bobrathbun4pres
I was born in 91. I think us beating the wiz in the 60 win season ranks #1 that ive seen. Pp calling the series early and Al outmuscleing gortat for the lead. This is a close 2nd

Beating Detroit in '86 (first playoff series win since the '70s), only to run into the Boston buzzsaw days later? Premium Member Popular Post Diesel Posted June 3, 2021 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted June 3, 2021 I have to say I liked our win in 2010 vs. the Orlando Magic. They had D Howard. Jameer Nelson and their merry men and they had beaten us the year before. BUt this was Larry Drew at the helm. The Bud years were good too... Especially pushing the Pacers.
Premium Member Atlantaholic Posted June 3, 2021 Premium Member Report Share Posted June 3, 2021 Obvs the Orlando and Washington series are the only other two series that can compare... at least in the last 20 years. IMO the Washington series was a little bittersweet... yes, it was great to go through and to do so in that dramatic fashion was entertaining. At the same time the team was not playing well at all, that Was team was pretty damn weak and a great team would have dominated them... to me it was obvious we were not playing very good basketball and would get crushed by the Cavs, which is exactly what happened. So while making the first ECF run in our Atlanta history was a neat accomplishment it didn't feel like much of an achievment when the end result was exactly the same as it always has been... absolute domination by Lebron/MJ. The Orlando series probably ranks 1a/1b along with this one. Larry Drew had this team playing great, getting payback for the previous playoff embarassment was a rare joy. I think that team really had a shot against the Bulls, and if the officiating hadn't been the typical shaft job we would have gone to seven and possibly won that series.

Not just beaten us but beaten us by what I think is an epic record setting lopsided margin.
Moderators Popular Post lethalweapon3 Posted June 3, 2021 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted June 3, 2021 This oldie-but-goodie had 3 occasions where the Hawks, before yesterday, prevailed as the lower-seed and consensus underdog. Hubie getting thrown out early in an series-clincher game was kinda fun. Reggie's Willis Reed moment was denied. And, no, Derrick Rose, Jameer will NOT be seeing you in the second round. ~lw3 5
Moderators Popular Post macdaddy Posted June 3, 2021 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted June 3, 2021 Yeah this may be #1 at this point. The Wizards and Magic series wins were very sweet too. this one is special for these reasons 1. we have a friggin superstar baller 2. we're young with a really bright future 3. in good shape coaching wise 4. i hate the knicks and everything knick-ish (rhymes with?) 5. we beat them down mercilessly in NY 6. We have a great shot at beating the sixers and going to the ECF with a super young core

Popular Post Final_quest
Getting to the ECF was #1, but this is perhaps my favorite first round win. What makes it special is being lead by a transcendent talent who is 22 years old. We don't know how far he can take us. He controls the tempo of the game. I've never experienced the dawn of an era like this where our ceiling is so high. Would love to know how many players lead their team to a playoff series victory at age 22 or younger. Got to be a short list.
Moderators macdaddy Posted June 3, 2021 Moderators Report Share Posted June 3, 2021 The thing about getting to ECF is we still getting get any national respect and then getting swept made it even worse. With this series, the way we played, and the historic Trae games people are taking notice and respecting what we have. Even a loss in the next round won't diminish that and.....we aint' losing.

HawkItus
It's up there with beating Orlando(Dwightmare) and Miami(Thugs). Nique team had some good series, but always seemed to under achieve.
