It's the defense that we run, I would give you gifs and still shots and all that but I'm on my phone and don't know how to do it from here so I'll just try to explain it. First I'll give a point of reference in Seattle...they have been 18,20, and 18 again the last 3 seasons in sack numbers. That's below average. But in those same years they were 1,1, and 2 in total yards given up.

The plan in the cover 3 is to not give up anything deep, force the offense to take the underneath garbage and collapse quickly. Speed is a premium in the defense and you saw that in the draft when they picked up 2 speedy lbs and got Neal. It's a one gapping system and is great against the run, but the thing is you don't blitz much and you give up some pass rushing opportunities to better stop the run. Tyson Jackson starting at DE is an example of this. Up front we're running a hybrid mix of 4-3/3-4 known as a  4-3 under. The line is shifted giving the illusion of a 4th linebacker on the end when technically he's what they refer to as a LEO. He's basically your pass rushing specialist. He can play with his hand in the dirt or standing up. We're geared towards stopping the run and putting offenses in 3rd and long type situations and then again forcing them to take underneath stuff and closing on it quickly. I tired to put in a pic to at least show the alignment and why we put people in the positions we do

I applaud your effort in explaining this but i still need sacks, lol. Especially  when I see a QB has 11 seconds to throw the ball.

Why does the front 3 or 4 struggle so much? I guess they're just not good enough?

Lol I understand. And honestly it's a mixture of things. Our base defense is littered with run stoppers on the line. That was the purpose of switching Vic to Sam so we could get more than one on the field at the same time. Freeney is good but he's limited in how much he can play. And as much as I like Reed and Clayborn they're just not starters. If we can get a Chandler Jones in FA or get a good one in the draft this defense will be set.

Seems this was too early haha but I'm still not ready to change my mind, I need to see how the next three games look. Those will almost be the season unless they are able to make a strong recovery after it. 0-3 pretty much puts them out of it, 1-2 and they'll be fine but will have to win all of their winnable games the rest of the way, 2-1 and they'll be in good shape.

In the two sacks we had I was surprised as was Brees at how fast Trufant got the sack on the corner blitz. A beautiful hit on a guy that always eats us up. Freeney literally was shoving the offensive lineman into Breez before he sacked him on our other one. At thirty six Freeney is still that powerful in a NFL game. I understand it will have to be in limited spots but he is gonna help with our sack anemia just the same.

Tru put a nice lil hit on Brees too, loved seeing that. And Freeney definitely still has it, like you said tho it's only in a limited role.

Holy freakin wow! That was fun. Enjoyed watching Cam walk into the tunnel as well. No one enjoys rubbing it in everyones face as much as Cam does so this feels extra crazy good. A great win!

The other network was showing and talking about the Raiders being three and one and their only loss was because of a big offensive showing by the Falcons. Believe this week our showing will handily top everyones offensive explosion through the air. Against a Super Bowl defense to boot.

Carolina's in a mental funk. I watched them get into that mental funk last week and they haven't snapped out of it. They were dominating and then all of a sudden they weren't and they were out of it along with their home crowd being out of it.

I still see the Falcons losing both of their next two games. With Denver the QB doesn't matter and Seattle will be coming off of a bye. If they even split, I think the South is there's to lose.

Not a dumb thread at all, homer.  Our defense is still very vulnerable. Our opponents are averaging 30 ppg. Carolina hasn't played great all season... Saints haven't either.  Tampa Bay has been terrible since beating us... yet our opponents are running up the score. The defenses we've faced haven't been great either... Carolina ranked 6th was the best. Saints, Raiders, and Bucs are all bottom third of the league in defense.

Denver will be our first true test...

I will give Matty Ice credit tho. He's a changed QB.

This is what happens when he can just play and play with confidence and not worry about getting sacked the minute he steps back and more importantly not having to worry about not getting the ball from the center.

no he's not he just has similar talent to what he had in the first 5 years he took us to the playoffs.   Protection + Weapons = Matty Ice

One guy really has changed the play of the line for Matt. Alex Mack may not be a spring chicken but he has been an absolute gift for us. Matt only has to make his calls and adjustments and not the O-line calls anymore. Plus the ball ends up in Matt's hands and not bouncing off of Person's thigh. Apparently that helps a quarterback out.
