Premium Member JeffS17 Posted July 7, 2021 Premium Member Report Share Posted July 7, 2021 I think we're fine at center. Clint will expire after two more seasons and OO will take the starting role (if he doesn't sooner). We'll have to address backup C at that point but I think we have more urgent issues at backup PG and at SG. I don't see us keeping Bogi for the length of his contract, especially with the risk of him being in a situation where he picks up the player options, so it will be interesting to see when we decide to trade him. It might depend on how comfortable he is coming off the bench again.

He doesn't have his same athleticism he once had. And his touch around the basket and at the line make Clint look like Hakeem by comparison.

It should even satisfy the folks who don't believe a Capela/Adams front court would work. In fact, I agree with Adams being the better center for what the Hawks do and NEED. The reason I wanted Collins gone is he IS gonna demand a max because somebody is gonna offer him that. Should the Hawks match that offer and STILL have a big man problem on defense? Again, I like YOUR lineup better for what the Hawks need. This is a better scenario. However I'd want more from New Orleans if I was the Hawks. If they offered Adams + NAW for Capela, I'd do that trade yesterday.

Clint metrics wise has been massive for us while Adams had a major down year where he considered himself, "dead weight".

NAW has that explosive scorer potential as a 6th man next year that I like a lot.

First, my main point is I rather get rid of Collins BECAUSE of the size problem going against the bigger front courts. The solution you presented of keeping Collins and getting that size by trading Capela for Adams AND getting Walker. Thats very enticing. Thats something that would depend on how Nate and Travis view the bigs going forward and whether they feel as I do that size would continue to be a problem. My original point of view had them trading for Adams just to GET SOMETHING for Collins that would help the size problem. You brought a entire different scenario. I think TS likes the chemistry of this group, and his ability to play with Trae. But I hope they at least noted his terrible showing the playoffs, and that CC has struggled in the playoffs throughout his career.

Popular Post h4wkfan
We can’t start 6’ 8” John Collins against the bucks. But the suns managed starting Jae Crowder at 6’6” and Mikal Bridges at 6’6” with no issues? that’s not taking into account 6’8” Reddish & Hunter too. Collins and Capela size was not and is not the issue. Things that make you go . Edited July 7, 2021 by h4wkfan

During the season, you can hide weaknesses. During the season, you can be fooled by what you believed was a strength. The playoffs change everything. As I look at the Atlanta Hawks roster, the playoffs proved their strengths. They have enough roster depth and scoring to compete for championships in the East. (a healthy Cam and Hunter in limited playing time proved that). What was revealed as a weakness is a front court of Capela and Collins can not stop the front courts of Philly and especially Milwaukee. The team is built to get back to the playoffs. No problem. The problem is the lack of size and physicality along the front line. Hunter will help in that regard, but its the height issue that I don't like. Embiid, Giannis and especially Brook Lopez, were out there getting into the paint and the rim with way too much ease. In fact, anytime they stepped in the paint, it was a automatic rebound and or points. Enter the trade that would put the Hawks in the NBA finals. This has ZERO to do with Collins contract demands. This is about what the Hawks need. Collins and Adams have similar rebound numbers. Collins has more points. This ain't about points. This ain't about the even rebound numbers. This about WHEN and how Adams gets his rebounds. This is about a bigger body the Hawks need, WITH EXPERIENCE, that can body Embiid, Giannis and Lopez off the weakside. He can body ANYBODY in the NBA. Adams also has the versatility to where you can plug him into either the center or power forward slot. He can score from 12 out to keep defenses honest. He is the answer to the help that Capela needs down low. The Pelicans HAVE been rumored to be hot on Collins and want to pair him with Zion. Sign and trade. Go into the luxury tax if you have to ( Ressler said he would). The Hawks would have a fearsome big lineup that nobody could stop. pg Young sg Bogi sf Hunter pf Adams c Capela Lopez just having his way with Collins: THE ANSWER Capela and Adams on the floor together?
Premium Member Popular Post JayBirdHawk Posted July 7, 2021 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted July 7, 2021 Glad I'm late to this thread, most have covered that the Capela/Adams pairing will not work as a tandem. I will say, at the trade deadline last season when the Hawks were looking for a center - Adams was at the top of my wish list. I wanted to sent OKC their 2022 pick back for him. They wanted #16 which at the time was too much for his expiring contract.

The Clippers won the Gobert match up by going small. In a series against top teams you won’t win every match up. You just can’t lose them all.

And that’s more than likely the thought process in the front office. The best case scenario defensively that can help Clint be better is a healthy Deandre Hunter returning and a consistent offensive game from Cam to insert himself in the starting lineup at SG for Bogi. then as planned by schlenk our two best perimeter defenders are in the starting lineup defending the perimeter way better than what Bogi and Huerter can do.
