Abu Dhabi bound Hawks (preseason games)

I know it's preseason.  I know it's DJM's first game and he may have been showing what he can do.  But Damnit... we look good.  Even the holidaze!!  We got ball handlers.   We have guys running the ball up.   We didn't look slow and stagnant.   Did you guys see the pace!!  We're playing with good pace and still efficient. 

We are going to be a problem.   I have watched other Pre-season games, teams don't move like us.   And that was against the Bucks.  I'm looking for good stuff.

I get the feeling that AJ and Silva will be on the G-League to start.   They can probably work their way up. 

We have really good stuff and this was the first game.   Guys look good.  Hunter, OO... good offseason.   Clint, JC... good offseason.  Of course Trae andDJM good offseason.   We're tough...

Martin also looks fluid... JJ will have to come in and prove himself.   The bar has been raised.   We need JJ to be able to play big.  If not, we have to get somebody.   Frank aint it...  That's our biggest need right now.. size and defense.   We also could do better on perimeter defense but that will come.

He's a sleeper. He made a nice pass and showed some ballhandling ability on the break as well. He's doing things a coach like Nate really likes. Don't be surprised if he sneaks into the rotation this season.

Unfortunately had meetings throughout the game but it sounds like we looked solid?!?  Cannot wait for October 19th.

Bogi and JJ are going to be key to consistent success through the season.   We need them both.  Might need JJ to step up more than anything.

Even with JJ we need another big. Frank can't play and we'll need all hands on deck if we see Philly or the Cavs in the playoffs this year.

My one gripe was our rebounding - we gave up too many O-Rebs,  particularly to the guards and wings.

Frank the Tank is gonna ball in November. He is just rusty now. We will regret hating on him.

I see the utility in having Frank.  He's a floor spreader.   However, they were dominating the boards and the inside.   We won't always get charges.   OO has to strengthen up too.  He was also getting pushed.   
I still like Whitesides if he's available but I understand that we're balling on a budget.

He was actually sitting at the scores table with about 3 minutes to go,but their was no stoppage of play. Other than that the Hawks looked good on the court and coaching wise.

I had the game on while I was working, so only a few casual observations from me... 

• They looked a lot less rusty than what I'm used to seeing in preseason.  Everyone looked like they took the offseason seriously and they came out with a purpose.
• Absolutely seamless offensive transition from Trae to DeJounte running the point.  DJM looked natural with the team - like he'd been with us for years.
• Only one game...but Aaron Holiday looks like a solid get for the rotation.
• The box score won't show it, but the defensive intensity was noticeably turned up with Murray out there.
• Hunter and OO look mostly the same and I don't mean that in a bad way.  They both looked solid, had good games, and appear to be picking up exactly where they left off.  No more, no less IMO.
  • OO has such good hands and maneuverability in the paint.  Especially when he's rolling to the basket.
  • Hard to weigh in on Hunter beyond what we've already seen.  He's had stretches of being solid the past 3 seasons and he looks primed to start this season off the same way.
• Collins looked great on every spot on the floor.  Really hoping we see more spot ups from him.
• I kept meaning to pay attention to the offense, but I was buried in work.  Obviously it's too soon to pass judgement and I didn't pay really close attention, but what I did observe...
  • Not a lot of off the ball movement (or even attempts there at) from our 1/2.
    • Plenty of spot ups and 2-headed PG switch up.
  • Clutch points are not going to be a problem.  Between DeJohnTrae, we will dial up buckets at will.
  • We are absolutely MONEY from midrange.
