The comic value of the trade has bumped it from an 8 to a 10 in my book now.

Their system is much different then ours. They play a different style which allows 3s to play 4.

I consider it bizarre to ignore all shooting except 3pt%.  To me, nothing means more than ts% for scoring efficiency and you go from there to look at segments for shooting.  Last season, Crabbe was the worst shooter.  Absolutely horrific from 2pt range.  Quite good from 3pt range.  Weak from the line.  Nets out to a worse shooting profile even before you reach volume considerations and defensive attention.  Both of those should be considered, though.  It is harder to maintain a high 3pt% on a high volume and harder still when you are the primary focus on opposing perimeter defense.  Conversely, it is easier to shoot a high % when you are a secondary consideration for the defense. 

For guys like Crabbe who aren't the focus of a defense, this means they should be expected to shoot much better than someone drawing more defensive attention if all other things are equal and means you have to factor in that role in evaluating them as a shooter.  (You can see this in the contrast between his 4 years in Portland where he took fewer shots with less attention and shot >41% from 3pt range and his 2 years in Brooklyn where he shot a bit more with a bit more attention and hit 37.8% of his attempts both seasons).

Looking at 3pt range alone, you've got a tale of two halves.

2018-19 Pre-AS Break:  Crabbe 40.5% / Trae 31.2%

2018-19 Post-AS Break:  Crabbe 29.7% / Trae 34.8%

I think the post-AS numbers are more meaningful for Trae because they reflect development he made over the season and better fit the expected role for next year than the early rookie season play does.  I'd say the pre-AS should be more significant for Crabbe due to the knee problems he had last year leading to a small sample size post-AS break.

Now there are different ways to assess who is a better shooter but personally I'd bet on Trae taking the shots that Crabbe takes shooting them at a way higher % than the shots he takes because of the decreased attention and distance on those attempts.  Likewise, I'd predict Crabbe's 3pt% would fall off a cliff if he tried to take the volume and types of shots Trae does.  They are simply apples to oranges in degree of difficulty (some of which I think is self-inflicted by Trae).  Crabbe is someone who basically sits in a good position and waits to get a good shot when someone else sets him up.  He then has historically done a good job converting 3pt shots within that fairly narrow role.

For next year, I fully expect that both Trae and Huerter will draw more defensive attention than Crabbe and that this will benefit Allen so that he continues to shoot a high % on some nice looks due to the attention drawn by his teammates and the superior passing from Trae to set him up.  If that happens, he will have the least gravity of the 3 and get the least defensive attention as the 3rd most threatening shooter from the perimeter.  (Note that this says nothing about any FA, trade or rookie additions that might shake up this heirarchy).

So for me, I'm putting him 3rd on my list coming into the season.

Kyrie Irving has not ruled out the possibility of re-signing with the Boston Celtics, according to multiple sources that spoke with Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald.

Irving has been strongly linked with leaving the Celtics with the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks mentioned as potential choices.

There is no word yet on whether the injury to Kevin Durant or the possibility of the Celtics trading for Anthony Davis will change Irving's calculus. 

The Celtics are still trying to acquire Davis regardless of what Irving decides.

I think the trade was reasonable for Brooklyn regardless of whether they land a big name or not.  There are no guarantees in going for a max contract and you have to take the risk on if you want to go for it.  Prince is also a reasonable building block, IMO.  So you gave up the 17 for Prince which is reasonable and the second pick for clearing the cap space which is also reasonable.  

Could be very good for them or blow up in their face or just be a shrug "eh" kind of situation at the end of the day.  Depends on how the picks turn out, how Prince turns out and how FA turns out.  But the net risk/reward situation seems fairly balanced to me.

Right but if he was a potential All-Star if he improved if he matured in his decision making and improved his ball handling then that is a reasonable gamble for the Nets.  Players improve both of those elements of their game pretty regularly.  

Again, I'm glad it is the Nets taking that gamble but the risk/reward for a #17 pick seems fine to me.

To be fair, he is breathing just like every all-star before him.  Prove me wrong.  Name me an all-star that wasn't breathing during the game.  I'll wait.

I'm excited about that one too.  For them, it is the shot at a max FA in exchange for giving us the second pick.  I'll take that for us all day long but I can see what they are thinking as well.  If you can land the max guys (and they are worthy of a max deal), that is usually a fantastic value for your team.
