Was gonna say "the foul line" but your response is so much, much better.

Come on Trae.  Making yourself look bad with this.  Show some knowledge of the game's history!  This seems more like a list of the guys who have mentored him and been recent superstars.  The only names that should be in a top 5 from that list are Jordan and LBJ.  None of the others are close.

Seems like his top 5 favorites.  I doubt Bill Russell, Wilt, Kareem appear on whole lot of current nba player's top 5 lists.

Top 5 favorites is fine.  That is different from best of all time.  Anyone wanting to argue Durant > Kareem should be laughed off the stage.  It would be like arguing "I'd take Christian Yelich over Hank Aaron."  :ahf:

Yeah but the dude's 21 years old.  I'm not sure how old you are but i'm pretty old and if i'm naming my top 5 baseball players I'm probably going to overlook ty cobb and ted williams.   That's basically who bill russell and kareem are to a 21 year old.

Can't imagine a fan of any real age leaving off Babe Ruth from their short list of greatest baseball players.  I guess I think higher of Trae than is maybe fair for someone his age.  I just assume someone who has been immersed in the sport from a young age and considers himself to be a student of the game has some knowledge of the all-time greats and enough perspective to know that Steve Nash, Kevin Durant, etc. are not even in the conversation for top 5.

agree there.  But i don't really know the context of the question he was replying to.  I just assume it was 'who are your top 5 nba guys'  so he answered it with the ones he is familiar with.  But maybe i'm wrong.  If the question was 'Who are the top 5 NBA players of all time' that's different.

For example. An incredible player and consistent winner on the big stage like Bill Russell and his impact to be understood....either you are long in the tooth, love old NBA videos or old NBA articles/books. Not so much what the twenty year old crowd targets really. Surprised with a couple of the names Trae listed somewhat but kinda understand. In the older world Trae would not score fifteen points per at the foul line and simply may not understand that game of yore. He is my guy just the same, just really young. Am remembering John Drew's and Nique's bruised up forearms at this very moment.

Like I said, I am totally good with that being his personal favorites list.  @kg01 could have Mario West, Stephon Marbury, Matt Geiger, Travis Best and Jarrett Jack as his personal top 5 list and I'm good with that.

But if that is your All-Time Top 5...

My feeling on this is if Trae has made if this far, he should know the history of the game. Gotta do your research I don’t care if your 21 or 82. Having said that, there’s the argument of not having seen a player due to timeline.

Without further adieu, Spud 🥔 ‘s list.

Ill do two lists, overall players during my time.

My time: (1982-current)

PG- Magic/Stockton

SG- Air/Kobe

SF- Nique/Bird

PF- Karl Malone/Duncan

C- Hakeem/Shaq

All time:

PG- Oscar/Magic

SG- Air/Kobe

SF- Nique/Lebron (it’s my list 😂)

PF- Karl Malone/Duncan

C- Russell/Wilt (honestly I’d like to run Russell at pf and Wilt at center)

New age all time team (2000 draft n beyond)

PG- Trae

SG- Harden

SF- Lebron

PF- Giannis

C- Ant 🐜 Davis

Yours? 🤔

Now that is what I call a ten man rotation. Good memories right there.

Nice lists but I have to ask:  How did Bird beat LeBron on the 1982 to current list but LeBron beat Bird on the All-Time list?

My All-Time Top 5 is:

Magic

Jordan

LeBron

Duncan

Kareem  (can make the case for Wilt or Russell and perhaps even Hakeem and Shaq here as well)

Great question 😆. I believe that’s called my bad. Honestly, I wanted to leave Bird out of it completely but I can’t let my hate get in the way of reality. The guy was clutch and won. It’s hard to leave him off the list.

I like your list, Kareem was a surprise as the starter but how can you not consider the captain 👨‍✈️All time leading scorer and ☝🏾 of the most electrifying and notorious patented go to hook shot which was nearly impossible to defend.

I can’t come up with any All Time squads, too much of a logjam at the guard positions.  I’m pretty solid on a James-Garnett-Duncan front court though, all apologies to Hakeem.  Not sure how guys like Russell, Wilt, and Kareem would’ve handled PNR defense.

I know everyone’s watching some NBATV classics.  Them sh!ts make me feel all warm and fuzzy.  Remember when we had “shooting specialists?”  Even they had to be scrappy defensively.  Anthony Mason and Charles Oakley (forgot how pretty his jumper was) literally fighting for post position lol.

Magic was such a natural, seamlessly transitioning between PG and post player.  I don’t think high level basketball is supposed to be “fun,” Magic seemed like he had the most doing it.  There may be some equal but I can’t place anyone’s basketball mind above Pat Riley’s.

Always been a Scottie fanatic.  They were showing the Bulls playoffs without Jordan.  Watching him glide around the floor again was awesome but I never really gave Horace Grant his props as a kid.  Dude used to work, maximized his potential.

When I watch replays of Dr. J I can’t help but feeling he was overrated.
