I think Trae is 11 for 11 on the official ballots I've seen so far.  And somewhat surprisingly there's been a nice split between 2nd team and 3rd team with no one saying he's just barely making it.  I'll be happy as long as he make one of the three teams, but I'll consider it a win for reasonableness if he makes 2nd team.

35 wins is clearly not a losing player. We are talking one individual here. Now the best guys like Jokic are worth 50-55 wins and Giannis is worth 45-50 wins. But here's the thing, my advanced metrics, called DIRT, says Trae is worth at least 50 wins. Ja, conversely, is worth 43 wins, same as Kevin Durant. Meanwhile, Luka is worth 53, Giannis and Steph Curry are worth 54, and Jokic is worth 55 wins. FWIW, John Collins is worth 33 wins. 

I'd tell you exactly how I came up with those numbers, but it's proprietary.

Marco, it's okay to throw around your own made up numbers to prove your points around here. Supes does it, I just did it, John Hollinger does it. Anybody can do it!

I've defended Kirschner in the past, no longer. It takes a special kind of idiot to watch Trae all season and come to the conclusion that Ja is a better player: just unreal amounts of facepalming. Especially based on his criteria of "won more games" when we've all talked about how the on/off win % of each team drastically favors Trae.

Wasn't a Kirschner fan when he first arrived b/c I thought he probably was making things up and reporting them as-if well-grounded and well-sourced.

I turned out to be wrong about that, and at some point, I had to admit as much.

He's the epitome of brash, which isn't very typical in a reporter... but when you work for The Athletic, his superiors apparently feel fine about giving their beat reporters some leash to let them be themselves. He's also, unfortunately for him more than anyone else, a bit thin-skinned and immature, and that becomes vivid with something like this. Kirschner would have benefited from making a living in a time when Twitter didn't exist, that's for sure.

I have no problem with him having his opinions... even when I think he's woefully wrong, like in this instance... as long as he backs up his opinion with some substance, and I don't recall him ever failing to do so.

I only have a problem when he lashes out at someone else and feels he has to justify his opinions by attempting 7th grade playground insults at his critics.

But on the whole, I really like what he brings to the table. He's been the very best at digging for intel that I recall, in the realm of Denburg, Sekou and Cunningham, and maybe maybe #1.

 

Related... Trae is completely in his right, as well, to have his opinions about Kirschner.

I'm sure we all noticed how Trae treated Kirschner's questions last night... or if you didn't, here ya go... hehehehe...

How can he be credited for winning and rewarded for team wins when his team didn't even need him to win?

Didn't Brooklyn finish with the same record as us.  Why did he not penalize KD the same way he penalized Trae?  I mean, Jimmy Butler did not make his list but KD and Lebron did?  So when it comes to KD and Lebron.. the stats matter... When it comes to Trae... the Wins matter?

Somewhere in beat writing.. there has to be homerism.   This is where we differ Sturt.  To say he is a good purveyor of information... OK fine.  He may do some good "digging" and provide information.   BUT... that doesn't make him a good beat writer.  How does he ever expect to get a whole story from Trae now that he has made it public that he believed that Ja Had a Better season than Trae did?  How does he expect to continue to get good takes from the team if Nationally, he predicted the team to lose?

Because of this, I don't consider him a beat writer.   I consider him a writer. 

Jeff Denberg,  Ailene Voisin, Sekou Smith,  and Right now... Kevin Chouinard, Brad Rowland, Soaring Down South, Pat Benson Jr, Ben Lander...  are what I would call Beat Writers.   You can't be a beat writer without being loyal.
