From what he said on the radio today, Landry sees trading one of the youngs as beneficial to them as it gives them a chance to further their careers. I would say that isn't dissimilar to what we've seen with some prior Big 3's where not all of them are necessarily All-World. None of the Boston Big 3 were at their apex when they won a title but all were still very good players. Even KG who was their biggest star saw a big drop in all his numbers in Boston (in year 1 for sure but even moreso thereafter). KG had his lowest PPG, RPG, BPG and other stats in almost 10 years when he went to Boston and was a 15 and 8-9 guy for most of his time for the Celtics. Translation: prepare for a trade While we can debate whether this is the best course of action ad nauseam, it's clear this team is in WIN-NOW mode. They moved a ton of future assets for Murray and Bey. You don't do that with the goal of rebuilding. They want to keep Trae happy and he wants to win so therefore you try to do just that. I love the young guys' potential, but you develop guys to fill spots OR bring in proven guys that help you win. Look at the Braves. It was brutal watching Freddie leave for the Dodgers and Dansby for the Cubs, but they replaced them with guys that weren't in their farm system, but brought in their replacements by trading guys who were. Anthoupolous has done more to instill confidence as a competent and even brilliant GM moreso than Landry at this point, but the concept is still the same.
